🤔 Ever wondered what "asana" means in the world of yoga?
Allow me to shed some light on this💡
Asana is the sanskrit term for the physical postures or poses practiced in yoga. Many yoga poses end have this word incorporated into their name which is why you may sometimes get confused about the pose names! They kinda all sound the same when you first start hearing them right? Example - shavASANA (co**se pose), salabhASANA (locust pose) and so on. Asana is the third of the eight limbed practice of yoga. So, it is only an eighth of what yoga has to offer. Pretty cool when you think about it. You can spend a lifetime practicing and never get bored or stop discovering something new within your practice.
Yoga poses can improve strength, flexibility, balance and mindfulness as we try to stay focused on the body, mind & breath during asana practice. From gentle stretches to more dynamic movements, asanas come in all shapes and sizes, offering a wide range of benefits for people of all ages and abilities.
If you're looking to increase flexibility, build strength or simply unwind and de-stress, asana practice has something to offer everyone. 💜 Charley
This is HARD as F***! 🤣
Have you ever come across the concept of non-judgmental awareness?
It’s about embracing each moment as it is, without criticism or attachment. Observing your thoughts, feelings and sensations without getting caught up in them.
I know, easier said than done, right? But here’s the thing - when we practice non-judgmental awareness, we create space for compassion and kindness to flourish. Instead of beating ourselves up for not being “perfect” or comparing ourselves to others, we just observe and accept whatever comes up with an open heart.
And you know what’s really cool? When we let go of judgment, we free ourselves from so much unnecessary stress and negativity. It’s like this weight lifted off our shoulders and we can just breathe a little easier.
So, the next time you catch yourself getting caught up in judgmental thoughts, try to take a step back and just observe. Offer yourself a little kindness and understanding and see how it shifts your perspective. 💜 Charley
I’ll go first! Today I am grateful for...my warm cup of coffee ☕️
In our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in stress, worries and to-do lists. Practicing gratitude redirects our focus from what’s lacking to what we already have. It’s a simple yet profound practice that can bring joy, fulfillment and meaning to our daily lives.
Now it’s your turn! What are you grateful for today? Share below 👇
Roll your way to a happier you! 💜 Can using a foam roller help you? If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on a fantastic tool for maintaining mobility and easing muscle tension.
Let me tell you why incorporating foam rolling into your routine may help you:
🏋️♂️ Improved Flexibility: Sometimes your body can feel tight and stiff, limiting your ability to move freely. Foam rolling is shown to improve flexibility/range of motion.
💪 Relief from Aches and Pains: Foam rolling can help alleviate aches and pains by working on trigger points. It’s like giving yourself a soothing massage right at home!
🧠 Enhanced Body Awareness: Using a foam roller requires you to tune into your body and pay attention to areas of tension and tightness. This mindfulness practice can help you become more aware of your body’s needs and improve your overall body awareness, leading to more easeful movement patterns.
😌 Stress Relief and Relaxation: Foam rolling isn’t just beneficial for your muscles—it’s also great for your mind! Taking the time to roll out your muscles can promote relaxation and reduce stress levels, leaving you feeling calmer and more at ease.
Ready to experience the incredible benefits of foam rolling for yourself? Join us for our upcoming Foam Roller Workshop on Sunday 16 June Wetland Centre, Bibra lake. We’ll guide you through gentle and effective foam rolling routines that you can use at home. Reserve your spot today (Link in bio)
💜 Breathe in calm...breath out calm...
A skill you DO NOT want to lose? ❌ Being able to get yourself up off the floor.
But fear not, mastering this skill is easier than you think, thanks to a little technique called habit stacking (shoutout to Atomic Habits by James Clear). Instead of plopping onto the couch right away, why not try this: Take a quick seat on the floor first, then smoothly transition to your intended spot. It's a small tweak to your routine that can yield massive benefits for your future self!
So let's make a pact to get down and up off the floor each day. You can even lean on a chair for support initially if needed, but the key is to just do it! Your body will thank you later. 💜 Charley
Let's be REAL for a moment...close your eyes & take a moment to drop your attention inward.
What do you find?...I bet it's not peace or nothingness. For me it was "Oh, there is something in my slipper poking my heel"
Let's be honest that it isn't always enjoyable or even or pleasant. Tell me in the comments the first thing that popped into your mind when you did this. I bet there are some interesting ones...💜 Charley

Om Shanti: Universal Peace ☮️ 💣
The ultimate peace bomb to drop at the end of a yoga class.
There is no direct translation for the word om. It is a sacred vibration that encompasses the entire world and transcends time and space. It's resonance is said to be that of the earth.
Shanti stands for peace so together Om Shanti = Universal Peace.
I believe that a wish for peace connects all of us together, regardless of our individual beliefs 💜 Charley - Yoga & Meditation Teacher for Everyday Folk

📕My current read - The Art of Yoga Sequencing by
I bought this book as a pre-order to support Sage. I really like the work she does and this book needs to get out there to new teachers! So many new teachers have no clue how to confidently sequence and modify poses.
Plus when you pre-order books, it helps to support the author by giving more marketing budget and goes toward their first week of sales which means shops are more likely to stock their book!
Even though I didn’t really buy this book for myself, I’m enjoying it a lot which is an added bonus! 🙏💜 Charley - Yoga & Meditation Teacher for Everyday Folk

❓Something I love to teach to my students? Is how they can apply yoga principles to their everyday lives.
You see, yoga isn’t just about the poses we strike on the mat. It’s a way of living and being in the world that can infuse every aspect of our existence with mindfulness, compassion and balance.
So, what exactly does it mean to take yoga off the mat and into our daily lives? Well, it’s about embodying those core principles of yoga - things like mindfulness, self-awareness, and kindness.
On the mat, we practice being fully present in each moment, tuning into the sensations of our breath, our body, and our surroundings. But mindfulness isn’t just something we do during our yoga practice - it’s a skill we can carry with us throughout our day.
Self-awareness is another key aspect of yoga that we can take off the mat. Through our practice, we learn to listen to our bodies, honour our limitations and cultivate a deep understanding of ourselves. Off the mat, this means paying attention to our thoughts, emotions and reactions, noticing when we’re feeling stressed, tired, or overwhelmed, and responding with kindness and compassion.
Taking yoga off the mat isn’t always easy, I’ll admit. It requires patience, practice, and a willingness to embrace life’s messy, unpredictable nature.
But the rewards are immeasurable.
When we live with mindfulness, self-awareness, and compassion, we find greater peace, joy, and fulfilment in our lives. We become more resilient in the face of challenges, more open to new experiences and more deeply connected to ourselves and the world around us. 💜 Charley
Today marked the beginning of our Autumn term and we couldn’t be more excited to have you back with us, along with all our wonderful new yoga students! 🧘♀️🧘♂️
For the next 11 weeks, we’re diving deep into our theme: Nervous System Reset.
But what exactly is a Nervous System Reset? Well, think of your nervous system as the control centre for how you handle stress, anxiety, and the stuff that daily life throws at you. Sometimes, it can feel like it’s all a bit too much, right? That’s where the magic of a nervous system reset comes in—it’s like hitting the reset button for your body and mind.
Our classes this term will be focused on all sorts of practices and techniques aimed at helping you relax, shake off the effects of stress and find that perfect balance for your body and mind.
If a nervous system reset sounds like just what you need right now, there’s still time to join us for the new term. Head to the link in our bio to sign up!
Looking forward to seeing you in class! 💜 Charley - Yoga & Meditation Teacher for Everyday Folk
As a yoga teacher, I’ve witnessed firsthand how yoga classes foster a sense of community, especially as we start to party/socialise a bit less!
Beyond the physical practice, our classes provide a space for connection and support with our students often bonding over shared experiences, challenges, and successes after each class.
Charleyoga truly is a place where friendships are formed, where individuals uplift and inspire one another and where the collective energy of the group enhances the practice for everyone involved.
I feel blessed to have created a safe space for our students where everyone feels valued, accepted, and encouraged to grow both on and off the mat.
It’s never too late to start your yoga journey 🧘♂️ If you’re looking for a safe space to begin - or deepen - your yoga practice, look no further. Join us for our upcoming term starting on April 15th (Book via the link in our bio)

🎬 NEW videos ~ Mini Morning, Evening & Anytime Flows
This months’ new featured videos in our library are quick morning, evening & anytime flows- ⏰ 5 - 20mins max.
I’ve always loved creating practices that are easy to learn and do in a short amount of time. You might be surprised to know that this is how most long-term practitioners, including yoga teachers, do their practice.
Yes, we like long classes as well but on the daily, it’s the short practices that are the most sustainable and impactful on our everyday lives. 👍🧘
I really do take requests and some of these were requested by one of our regular subscribers, Alison D. You can thank her later after you’ve found your favourite go to quick practices. Remember to add them to your favourites so they are easy to find when you log back in!
If you have an active subscription, you'll be able to access all these videos and if you don't, you can sign up by following the link in the bio 💜 Charley
Feeling the LOVE after one of our lovely students wrote these words about our recent retreat ⬇️
"We entered the space and left the world behind
We closed the door to focus on ourselves
We were alone yet with friends
We learned from passionate teachers, real humans
We followed our own journeys
Our paths were similar yet different
We stopped to feed our bodies delicious food
We had time
We relaxed, journeyed inward
We were at peace
Grateful for the time together
Grateful for the leadership
Grateful for being fortunate enough to have the privilege of being able to attend
Grateful for chocolate 😂 " - Janet W
How beautiful, thank you, Janet. And yes, there was chocolate - there is ALWAYS chocolate! 🤭
