**Happy Refugee Week!**
It was a privilege for the Multicultural Labor Organisation executive team to attend the Refugee Week Freedom Cup and Family Fun Day at the Herb Graham Recreational Centre Oval in Mirrabooka. The event was absolutely fantastic, providing a wonderful opportunity for community leaders to meet and discuss important issues with Honourable Labor Senators and MPs.
We were fortunate to have Dr. Tony Buti MLA, Meredith Hammat MLA , Senator Fatima Payman, Ayor Makur Chuot, and Tracey Roberts - Federal Member for Pearce at the event. We witnessed how playing the world game (football/soccer) brings people from different backgrounds together in a spirit of friendship and healthy competition.
These are crucial for fostering unity and celebrating our diverse community.
Happy Eid-ul-Adha to all Multicultural Labor Organisation families who are celebrating!
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice" is an important Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham in the Judeo-Christian tradition) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. According to Islamic tradition, God intervened and provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
The significance of Eid-ul-Adha includes:
1. Commemoration of Faith and Obedience:
The festival honors Ibrahim's devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command, which is seen as the ultimate act of faith.
2. Animal Sacrifice:
In remembrance of Ibrahim's sacrifice, Muslims who can afford it perform the ritual of sacrificing an animal, usually a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The meat from the sacrifice is then distributed among family, friends, and the needy, symbolising charity, community, and sharing.
3. Concluding Hajj:
Eid-ul-Adha coincides with the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which Muslims are required to perform at least once in their lifetime if they are physically and financially able.
The celebration typically involves communal prayers, feasting, and acts of charity. It is a time for Muslims to reflect on their faith, perform acts of generosity, and strengthen their community bonds.
On behalf of Multicultural Labor Organisation we would like to send our congratulations to Mark McGowan for being recognised as a Companion of the Order of Australia!

Congratulations to Mark McGowan for being recognised as a Companion of the Order of Australia.
Mark is being acknowledged for his service to West Australians, keeping us safe and strong during the pandemic, and for his service to international trade relations.
As Premier, he ensured WA had a world-class pandemic response, delivered important social reforms such as Voluntary Assisted Dying, put an end to native forest logging, and got METRONET underway.
As well as this, he worked together with our Labor team to get WA's finances back on track, making our State's economy one of the strongest in the world.
