GET INVOLVED: There’s still time to have your say on the future of arts and music education and training in NSW, by sharing your views to help inform a new Parliamentary Inquiry.

🎨 Arts and music education is the focus of a new Parliamentary inquiry recently established by Parliament of NSW! 🎶

This inquiry will evaluate the current state of arts and music education programs, examine their benefits for student engagement and academic outcomes, and assess how well they align with industry needs. The inquiry also seeks to identify barriers to participation, investigate the role of digital technologies, and explore successful models and best practices from other jurisdictions.

If you have views to share to help shape the future of arts and music education, we’d love to hear from you!

The closing date for submissions is 25 July 2024. Individuals contributors may prefer to complete the committee's online questionnaire rather than make a submission. Breaking News: Congratulations to the 2024 winners of the prestigious Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes! 🎨🖼️

announced the winners this afternoon, with Kurrajong-based artist Laura Jones winning the 2024 Archibald Prize for her portrait of Tim Winton, Australian author and conservationist.

“‘There is an array of brilliant finalists for the 2024 Archibald Prize. I am shocked and humbled to be chosen as the winner. This is a life-changing moment for me.” - Laura Jones.

Yolŋu elder and distinguished artist Djakaŋu Yunupiŋu from Yirrkala in the Northern Territory has been awarded the Wynne Prize 2024 for her painting ‘Nyalala gurmilili’. The work is the first bark painting to ever win the Wynne Prize, Australia’s oldest art prize, and is one of the largest bark paintings ever produced!

First time finalist and Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) community Elder Naomi Kantjuriny has won the Sir John Sulman Prize 2024 for ‘Minyma mamu tjuta’, and is the third Indigenous Australian to be awarded the Sulman Prize.

The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2024 exhibition, featuring all prize winners and finalists, opens on Saturday 8 June.

Regional Arts Touring recipient announcement 📣

From Bellingen to Broken Hill, Dubbo to Deniliquin, Murwillumbah to Merimbula - audiences of all ages, from every corner of the state, will enjoy unforgettable experiences when 17 outstanding performing arts productions and cultural programs head out on tour to 59 regional communities thanks to Create NSW’s Regional Arts Touring 2023/24 fund.

Anticipated to engage over 100,000 people across NSW, a diverse range of high-quality productions, performances and interactive workshops will showcase the state’s premier talent and creativity, through Aboriginal cultural presentations, live music (including country music, jazz, and orchestra), theatre including children’s theatre, poetry, comedy, and dance.

GRANT RECIPIENT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Thanks to the second round of the Arts and Cultural Funding Program for 2023/24, 131 creative projects and programs will be brought to life, including annual funding for 25 organisations and project funding for 106 new and exciting projects, including 14 First Nations projects.

Among the diverse and impactful programs are a 12-month artist residency for emerging First Nations artists on Bundjalung Country, storytelling through dance in Narooma, a new children’s theatre production created in Bathurst, an arts and cultural festival celebrating Newcastle's creative spirit, and many more.

Two new Sound NSW grants are now open for applications!


We’re launching $3 million in funding to support artists and industry professionals hit the road and make great new music.


The Touring and Travel Grants are grants that will support artists and artist managers to be globally competitive, develop industry networks and connect with new audiences locally and internationally. This grant offers up to $2,500 per person for domestic activity and $7,500 per person for international – with a two-week turn around!


The Recording and Promotion Grants will support artists to record and release new original work including singles, EPs and albums. NSW artists can apply for grants of:

✔️ Up to $25,000 for short-form releases, such as a single or EP

✔️ Up to $50,000 for long-form releases, such as an album

✔️ Up to $25,000 matched funding for artists signed to a major label.

Up to 10 interns will be selected in 2024 to work with host organisations in Regional NSW, Western Sydney and Sydney including ABC Children's original team, ABC (Compass), Animal Logic, Belvoir St Theatre, Bronte Pictures, Erth Visual & Physical Inc., Legs On The Wall, Lingo Pictures, Musica Viva Australia, Orange Regional Conservatorium, Outloud, Performance Space, SBS Australia, Sydney Theatre Company, Tantrum Youth Arts, and Varuna - The Eleanor Dark Foundation Limited.

What a year 2023 has been ❤️

You can check out 'Ramses' at Australian Museum, 'Kadinsky' or Louise Bourgeois' exhibition 'Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day?' at Art Gallery of New South Wales, or even '1001 Remarkable Objects' at Powerhouse Museum just to name a few.

The Create NSW team will also be taking a break over the holiday period, returning the 8 January 2024.

Introducing Venues Unlocked – a new initiative to install soundproofing and support venues and hospitality businesses with skills and training to host live performances.

Venues Unlocked is designed to upgrade live music venues and build the capacity of hospitality business (including bars, clubs, breweries, restaurants and cafes) across NSW metropolitan areas and regions.

The program includes two funding and support streams for established and emerging venues:
