What an exciting week it’s been 💙👏🏻 8 Placentas collected for encapsulation but 1 extra special placenta that was flown all the way from The Northern Territory, driven from outback to Darwin and flown to Sydney airport frozen for me to collect from Quanta’s at Mascot. It’s now been encapsulated into a powder for Mumma to return her placenta to earth. Her package also included a framed umbilical cord keepsake with a super long cord written into the word Love & framed into an 8x8 3D box frame. Both a placenta print using umbilical cord blood & dyed prints. Also added was a 50ml Placenta Balm using organic Australian ingredients & of course her placenta.

This beautiful umbilical cord keepsake shaped into the word Love. This baby was given all of their cord blood as I found the cord to be well drained of blood during processing. This umbilical cord belongs to a very special baby boy who was born via surrogacy at North-shore Private Hospital. This is the 2nd baby for this beautiful family. 💙

This is placenta number 4 already this week & what an incredible placenta it is. Mum birthed at Westmead Private Hospital. This is the placenta of Monochorionic, diamniotic (MCDA) twins. MCDA twins are the product of a single fertilized o**m (egg), resulting in genetically identical offspring. MCDA twins share a single placenta (blood supply) but have separate amniotic sacs. The occurrence of MCDA twins occurs at a rate of three to four in 1,000 births.

This beautiful placenta had a slight variation with the umbilical cord being inserted midline but very off to the right of the placenta (flipped in the prints) this gorgeous cord was long enough to write the word baby with. This placenta yielded 181 berry capsules for mum to help her during her 4th trimester. So what is your estimated due date (EDD)?

From the moment you see those two pink lines or even whilst trying to track your cycle to conceive, you’re already calculating in your mind approximately when your baby will be birthed. You might even make a dating ultrasound to be sure. It can feel like counting down to Christmas. But here is the thing. Did you know that only 5% of babies are actually born on their estimated due date? This could be why. The current way of calculating estimated due dates uses a formula based on naegele’s rule, which he created from a study done in 1744 on only 100 women! The due date was estimated to be 7 days from the last period + 9 months. But, it was not studied whether to count the 7 days from the first day of the menstrual cycle or the last.
Mosts doctors began to assume it was the first day, without evidence based research.
This is also assuming that all women have a 28 day menstrual cycle, with ovulation occuring at day 14.
However, most women have varying cycle lengths so it makes sense that we have varying lengths of pregnancy too.
Hence making it a due month, 10 moons, a very estimated due date between 38-42 weeks. Your due date helps determine when to run tests & track babys’ development, but your due date is just an estimate of a timeframe when your baby might be born. The majority of babies are born within 10 days either side of this estimated due date. Sometimes having a “due date” can cause pressure to birth. Take this pressure off by calling it a due month.
So remember, without true medical reason for induction of labour or a scheduled caesarean, expect to be pregnant for 42 weeks.

While I have kept my collection & delivery costs super ridiculously low, as I really just want to be able to offer all mums the gift of placenta encapsulation. However, it’s just no longer cost possible with rising fuel, insurance, toll, registration costs. Also now that I’m getting busier it’s a lot of time travelling which means less time encapsulating or spending time with my family. I will be now offering express postage back for delivery of placenta packages. Also I’ll have an option to deliver your placenta to me or collect packages directly from me in Penrith. I’m now covering all of Sydney, even a placenta from Canberra & another from Darwin! Travelling hours at a time. The only free delivery & collection will only be available to Nepean hospital & Penrith, all other suburbs will incur collection & delivery costs. I will be doing my absolute best to keep these as low as possible for face to face collection & delivery (it’s so worth it trust me, I often tend to lend a hand with washing, a breastfeed or making you a cuppa) there will be cheaper options than this personal face to face service. Such as postage options, free delivery & or collection from the studio or using a courier for long distance travel or Quanta’s. Stay tuned. Pool afternoon with this beautiful bloof. I never knew a dog could make me feel so happy. What fabulous weather we are having lately. I’m sure my heavily pregnant clients don’t agree & I know just how hard being heavily pregnant over summer is. Here are a few tips to try & stay comfortable in the heat. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Limit exposure to the heat especially direct sun.
Wear breathable clothing.
Regulate your body temperature with multiple showers.
Cut back on exercise especially outside in the heat of the day, try an evening walk once it’s cooler or a swim.
Eat regular smaller meals rather than less frequent larger meals.
Rest.

Just a reminder: While I rarely say no to a last minute Placenta Encapsulation booking. It’s becoming really often that I am getting last minute enquiries that are as late as day 2-3 postpartum. This is meaning that I am actually saying no due to storage of the placenta post birth or it just being too long post birth to encapsulate. I get that life happens, but if you are wanting to book placenta encapsulation, please contact us in pregnancy so that you can be sure that your placenta is cared for & stored correctly for you to be able to enjoy its benefits. I also will be enforcing late fees from this point forward. Over the years I haven’t often charged them but with it becoming too often & quite disruptive to life due to late bookings as per T&Cs late booking fees will be now getting applied. It is your responsibility to promptly inform The Placenta Co when you give birth & once your placenta is ready for collection. We recommend texting 0408850923 when you are in labour & again once the placenta is ready for collection. Please note that to proceed with placenta encapsulation, you must notify the encapsulator of the birth of your placenta as soon as possible & within 48 hours of birth. Placentas that cannot be collected & processed within 48 hours should be either frozen or discarded, but this must be discussed with your placenta encapsulator. Can we take a minute to look at the length of this umbilical cord?! 🤩 Totally incredible coming in at 78cm in its length. Did you know❓That the Umbilical cord length varies a lot from pregnancy to pregnancy. An average umbilical cord is 55cm long. The shortest 5% of umbilical cords are shorter than 35cm. The longest 5% are over 80cm. If an umbilical cord is abnormally short or long, it can increase the likelihood of various pregnancy, labour birth complications, but normally it’s just a variation of what is “Normal”.

It’s been a busy few weeks of Placentas. Congratulations to my families on the birth of their babies, just in time for Christmas. What an extra special way to end the year by expanding their families. Lots of births from my Western Sydney Mummas. This is a beautiful cord keepsake formed into the word Love. This placenta yielded 210 capsules. Over the last 10 days I have had the 3 largest placentas of this year. Yielding 187, 210 & 215 capsules. I wonder if anyone will beat these 3 in the next month?

I had the privilege of encapsulating this amazing placenta this week. This placenta is a Bi-Lobed placenta. Occurring only 2-8% of the time in pregnancy. Bilobed placenta (placenta bilobate, bipartite placenta, placenta duplex) is a placenta with two roughly equal-sized lobes separated by a membrane. The umbilical cord may insert in either lobe, in velamentous fashion, or in between the lobes. In this placenta the umbilical cord is inserted to the left in the lowest half of the right lobe of the placenta.

I have been quiet on socials & I’m guessing it has you wondering what’s been going on? I want to thank those of you who have asked if I’m ok, I have beautiful clients. After complaining to GPs over this last year with symptoms that began as vertigo. Most days included nausea, headaches, irregular menstrual cycles & dizziness. I was told it was “just” vertigo & there wasn’t much that could be done. I lived off stemitil to just get my head off the pillow each day. So I reached out to a Naturopath who within weeks had me feeling better. However the last few months I have been plagued with extreme exhaustion, tingling hands, feeling cold continuously, poor skin that is extremely dry but also getting acne, which I have never had. I was putting on weight despite feeling nauseous often. I had blurred vision, headaches, felt dizzy. I had decreasing iron, vitamin D, & vitamin B levels despite being on supplements. My cholesterol was increasing. I had a poor immune system. I had digestion issues. I was itchy. My joints ached. I was miserable. After repeatedly being told it was just stress. I just knew it was more. I once again reached out to the AMAZING who told me that it sounded like Hashimoto’s disease, that I wasn’t crazy & my symptoms were real & valid. Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disease. Unfortunately having a family history meant I had the genetics & most likely the covid vaccine set off the immune response that sent my body into war. My own body killed my thyroid. Thanks to Paige, I saw a specialist who diagnosed me. Unfortunately Hashimoto’s disease has no cure & I have found out a bit late in the piece now at stage 4. But it can be controlled with a massive change of diet. (I’m now Gluten, Dairy, Soy & Sugar free) Lots of supplements, Lots of continued blood tests & medication. I’m slowly getting back to me. But for anyone wanting better health I can’t recommend a naturopath enough! Did you also know that being postpartum can trigger thyroid issues? Watch this space for some information on your thyroid & having a baby.

BABY ACNE:
Babies can also develop blemishes, usually appearing at around 2-3 weeks of age.

These breakouts typically affect you baby’s cheeks & nose but can appear on their forehead, chin, scalp, neck, back, or chest.

Neonatal acne is generally harmless & normally resolves on its own within a few weeks or months.

It can also occur a little later in breastfeeding infants due to hormones transmitted through their mums breastmilk.

Check this placenta out! This is called a Bi Lobed Placenta. It only occurs in 2-8% of pregnancies. A Bi Lobed placenta is a placenta with two roughly equal-sized lobes separated by a membrane.The umbilical cord can insert in either lobe, in a velamentous presentation or in between the lobes. It is a variation of normal & is called a placental morphological anomaly, however it can increase the chance of postpartum haemorrhage due to retained placental tissue. It is more likely to occur when the baby is a female.

I have transformed MANY umbilical cords into keepsakes over the years, about 500 actually. But I think this 1 was the most complicated & it’s sure 1 of my favourites. This little girls daddy wanted his daughters name as the keepsake, so Avery it was. Mumma wanted to remember her placenta with not just blood prints but also coloured prints in pinks & purples hence the cord colour. Mum chose The Placenta Cos complete package.
