This Men’s Health Week, we are reminding all men that it is estimated that skin cancer kills twice as many men as women in Australia and that incidence rates of being diagnosed with melanoma increases with age, especially in men over 60 years. This is largely due to accumulated sun exposure over a person’s lifetime.
It has never been more important to prioritise your health by seeking support and connecting with health services early on.
If you have a suspicious mole or a skin lesion you are unsure about, don’t delay your visit to a GP or dermatologist. To find out a dermatologist in your area, you can use ACD’s Find a Derm tool on our website to help you with your search https://www.dermcoll.edu.au/find-a-derm/

CrazySocks4Docs Day (CS4D) aims to normalise the conversation around mental health in healthcare and create a safe space for doctors to discuss their challenges. It has been wonderful to see landmarks around Australia illuminated purple this week to raise awareness, deepen understanding and support those affected by hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic autoinflammatory skin condition.
Symptoms of HS can vary but commonly include persistent nodules and abscesses deep in the skin that can result in painful discharge and scarring, significantly affecting people’s quality of life. Patients can often face significant delays in diagnosis and referral for specialist dermatologist care.
We are pleased to work with patient support group Hidradenitis Suppurativa Australia who are helping to shine a light on this condition, with the aim of breaking barriers and stigma so that diagnosis and treatment can begin earlier.
For more information on Hidradenitis Suppurative Australia and the other patient support groups we work with visit www.dermcoll.edu.au/for-community/find-support-group/
