The evening started with a keynote from science journalist and broadcaster Robyn Williams followed by rapid-fire five-minute presentations on topics ranging from quantum engineering to the biodiversity crisis, and technological innovations.

Jump into the world of frogs with conservation researchers Lynne Matthews and Anne Ibbotson! 🐸

Lynne's research aims to improve the understanding of threats that impact amphibians, and Anne is working on developing minimally invasive health markers to help inform conservation actions.

National Science Week kicks off today, an annual celebration of science and technology. 🧬🥼🔬

Celebrating this year's theme of 'Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability', we would like to introduce PhD student Charlotte Rigolot, whose research focuses on Koala conservation. 🐨

Currently endangered in NSW, Charlotte's work looks at investigating the major threats to local Koala populations and monitors their behaviour patterns.

Nader Alkaysi says his Greater Charitable Foundation Equity Scholarship has allowed him to spend more time on his studies and less time worrying about finances.

Norfolk Island is home to pine trees, jagged cliffs, and a unique array of birds. 🦜

But, historically, introduced rodents have led to the extinction of multiple bird species. 🐀

A project funded by the National Environmental Science Program’s Resilient Landscapes Hub is helping to protect native species by studying how introduced rats and mice move within the Norfolk Island National Park and nearby areas.

Researchers, Dr Finella Dawlings, Dr Darren Southwell, and project lead, Professor Matt Hayward recently travelled to Norfolk Island to test various ways of capturing and tracking feral rodents.

Our Ma & Morley Scholars recently spent 12 unforgettable days in China. 🇨🇳

Making life-long memories in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing, their days were filled with sightseeing, attending information sessions with industry partners, and connecting with locals to learn about cultural practices and cuisine.

University of Newcastle Students spotted in Fiji 🇫🇯

Along with visits to The University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University, our 3rd and 4th year Speech Pathology students have visited local hospitals to learn more about their healthcare systems.

The students stayed with host families in a village for 3 nights, experiencing Kava ceremonies, dancing, and Fijian food.

French, Japanese, Hindi, and Auslan were among the many languages celebrated at last week's Languages and Linguistics Welcome Night.

Students, staff, and local high school students were invited to learn and share their passion for languages and linguistics, with games, pizza, and presentations.

Our students are off to the Paris 2024 Olympics!

Genevieve Janse van Rensburg, who studies psychology, is the only Aussie competing in the Modern Pentathlon 🤺

And business student, Brin Liddell, will compete in the Nacra 17 Sailing alongside his crewmate Rhiannon ⛵️

Yesterday, they graduated from Open Foundation, and we can't wait to see what they achieve next 🎓

From Open Foundation student to Dr Stobbs! 🎓

Ngaio graduated today with a Doctor of Philosophy, the highest level of academic achievement that a student can earn, after starting her university journey with our Open Foundation program in 2006.

Ngaio crossed the stage in her late mother’s Korowai, a traditional Māori cloak, that travelled from New Zealand with her family who joined her to celebrate today.
