CULTIVATING AN OPEN MIND & A FRESH APPROACH TO EVERY PRACTICE

Having an open mind means that we are prepared to let go of everything we have ever known or learned, every opinion and belief that we may have adopted, and trusting in our experience as it happens.

This is a big ask when we go into our practice each day. Arriving on the mat with no expectations; not thinking that we know the way.

When we step onto the mat it is reallly important that we create a space to witness and experience the practice as it unfolds.

BE THE LIGHT

A NEW YEAR IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A BRIGHT NEW BEGINNING

Over my holiday in New Zealand, I felt drawn to the lighthouses that stand, solitary still beacons of light, on the rocky promontories of the wild and windy southeastern coast of the South Island.

There is something about the symbology of them - being a beacon of light - guiding ships safely around the rocks and obstacles. Something that struck me is that they are not huge flashing towers, but surprisingly small and modest structures. However small, their light would be seen from afar in all directions.

In a world where there is much darkness and unconsciousness the lighthouse reminds me to be the change I want to see in the world. No matter how small or insignificant we may feel, our light can shine a long way.
