📝Always Learning, Always Improving💡

Over the past couple days, several members of the NSW SES Liverpool Unit had the opportunity to attend , the largest emergency service conference in Australasia! During the event, our members were fortunate enough to attend live demonstrations in skills and equipment they use to keep the community safe, learn new maintenance and care routines for their personal protective equipment from industry experts, gain new and relevant insight into the emergency services field, network with their interstate and international counterparts, and even meet Ember The Crisis Response Dog!

✏️ Lessons learned at events such as these are so valuable in developing new skills and improving upon current ones used to keep the Liverpool community safe!

Tonight, our NSW SES Liverpool volunteers are recovering after an operational period caused by the recent strong winds. 💨 This involves going through all our equipment and vehicles and making sure they are all up to standard, in good shape, stocked up and ready to go. We also have a team of four out still attending some incidents that came through today, bringing the total to almost 60 incidents for the week. 👏

Even after the exhausting strong wind events, these superstars continue to go above and beyond to help our community. Check out those smiles while they're doing it too! 🤩

While storms can happen at any time of the year, between September and April, NSW sees increased chances of strong winds and heavy rain, which risks floods and flash floods.

☀️What an amazing day it was today - great weather and even better company! After the last couple of days working around the clock to keep the community safe, our volunteers spent the day at the Scouts NSW 46th GWS Jamborette hosted at Cataract Activity Centre in Appin.

It was a fantastic joint effort with NSW SES Campbelltown Unit and NSW SES Camden Unit to be able to showcase the different NSW SES vehicles, vessels, equipment and skills used for rescues. From completing puzzles for best times to throwing flood rescue bags at targets, everyone had a fun time participating in all the little activities offered. 🛟

🟠 Watch and Act 🟠
Low lying area of the eastern parts of Chipping Norton
Prepare to evacuate

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to PREPARE TO EVACUATE due to predicted rising flooding:

Newbridge Road between Riverside Road and east to Georges River; on Riverside Road between Childs Road and Newbridge Road; on Davy Robinson Drive; on Rickard Road; and on Arthur Street
You should monitor the situation and prepare to evacuate so that you can safely evacuate when instructed to do so by NSW SES. Wherever possible, you should prepare to stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements.

Evacuation Information
If you remain in the area, you may become trapped without power, water, and other essential services. It may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you.

What are we expecting?
Roads may be flooded.

This event may change quickly. We will monitor the situation and update our warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:
If you have a Home and/or Business Emergency Plan, use it now. Otherwise, have a conversation and plan for what you will do and take with you if you need to evacuate.
Have your mobile phone close and pack your charger, battery-powered radio, medicine, rain gear, warm clothes, blankets, baby and pet items, water, food, torch, something to attract attention, and valuables like photos and insurance or banking records.
Wear enclosed shoes and pack warm clothes for at least three days to manage unseasonably cool conditions.
Check your vehicle fuel levels and towed equipment (e.g., horse floats, trailers) to ensure you can safely evacuate.
Arrange to evacuate to the home of family or friends who are in a safe location away from present and potential flooding. Consider how to transport your pet(s) and companion animals.
Lift important belongings up onto tables, beds, benches, and shelves above predicted flood levels.
Collect or create sandbags by filling pillowcases or shopping bags with sand and place them around doorways and in toilets and over drains to prevent rising sewage.
Relocate waste containers, chemicals, and poisons well above flood level.
Investigate whether there are other hazards (e.g., severe storms, landslip, flash floods) that will impact your ability to evacuate.
Avoid storm drains and pipes, ditches, ravines, creeks, and rivers.
Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in floodwater - it is dangerous, toxic, and may void your car insurance. If it's flooded, forget it. Fines apply.
Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
