We do this through our extensive exhibition, festival, touring, retail, publishing and learning platforms. Located in Sydney’s Darlinghu
CLOSING SOON // ↩️ Explore the regional links between the New England Region and 'SIXTY: The Journal of Australian Ceramics 60th Anniversary 1962–2022' this weekend.
A special ADC On Tour exhibition project produced and presented by Australian Design Centre in partnership with , features the work of twenty-two acclaimed ceramic artists from across Australia, including Queensland-based artist Shannon Garson. A ceramic artist, writer and curator with a studio practice spanning 20 years, Shannon’s practice encompasses both handmade tableware and exhibition work, working with Australian porcelain.
The terrible bushfires of the last Australian summer brought Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar's description of the landscape into horrifying reality. Dorothea Mackellar's poem 'My Country' has been quoted and loved since it was first published in 1908. Dorothea began writing this poem in 1905 and worked in it when she went to London aged 19. During this time German poet Rainer Maria Rilke published his major book of poems 'The Book of Hours' in which he explores the phrase "beauty and terror", and humanity's search for God. Whilst Mackellar would have unlikely read Rilke's poem, both use beauty and terror to explore the wonders of being human and the courage to search for meaning in the universe.
Looking for more artwork inspired by Dorothea Mackellar and her poem 'My Country'? Or simply looking to explore the countryside which inspired the second verse and encapsulates the essence of Australia's unique landscape? Head to Gunnedah and check out the Silo Art which remarkably portrays the story of a young, homesick Dorothea Mackellar.

MAKE Award 2023 HIGH COMMENDATION // Liz Williamson
Listening, 2023
Handwoven with a warp of cotton, silk, cotton polyester and Tencel fine threads and forty different wefts made from cotton, silk, linen, wool, alpaca, h**p, mohair, rubber, polyester, elastic, abaca, raffia, paper cord, reflective tape, nylon monofilament, vinyl cord sari silk, suede rope, jewellery wire and stainless steel.
1600mm L x 600mm W x 200mm H
Sadly Liz passed away last month, with her contribution to the Australian craft community felt deeply amongst all.
“The idea for Listening comes from the writing of renowned artist and weaver, Anni Albers. In her 1982 essay Materials as Metaphor, she wrote of threads ‘I learned to listen to them and to speak their language, I learned the process of handling them’. * Albers advocated spending time with materials to ascertain their character, quality, texture, and ability to convey ideas, connecting the act of listening to artistic innovation and excellence.”

MAKE Award 2023 SECOND PRIZE // Jessica Murtagh
Self-checkout of Sisyphus, 2023
Blown glass, sand carved and engraved
270mm L x 270mm W x 470mm H
Acquired by Geelong Gallery for the collection.
“Much like Sisyphus, the self-checkout lane has become an eternity of futile labour as a form of hideous punishment. A modern and common scene played out in supermarkets, the dreaded "unexpected item in bagging area" flashes on screens across the globe - much to the consternation of all involved. While a source of fury for many, it is these mundane moments that are some of the great levellers of society. These are the small experiences we all face, understand and can commiserate with our fellow man over. It's moments like these that one can't help feeling united in our collective irritation.”
