💬 “The fact that harm reduction spending has continued to decline in the face of unprecedented evidence of impact and effectiveness is deeply concerning...”
A new UNSW report has revealed that state and federal governments spent approximately $5.45B on illicit drug countermeasures in the 2021/2022 financial year.
Nearly 65% was spent on law enforcement programs while less than 2% was spent on harm reduction measures such as needle syringe programs and supervised injecting facilities.

What is a mental illness?
Mother's Day has different meanings for everyone. Let's extend love and understanding to those whose hearts may also be grieving this year.
💭 This Mother's Day, we acknowledge that loss and love can coexist.
💭 Feelings like "No one loved me like she did" or "I won't get to work through our differences" are common.
💭 Mother's Day may hold complex emotions for those who have experienced pregnancy loss, the death of a child, or estrangement from family.
💭 While Mother's Day celebrates motherhood, it can also be a time of sadness and reflection. Acknowledging bittersweet feelings is important.
💭 If you're struggling, reaching out can help. Talk to a friend, join a support group, or seek professional support. Grief needs witnessing.

Are you looking for reputable resources on schizophrenia?
SANE was founded in 1986 as the Schizophrenia Australia Foundation and is dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by complex mental illness. Lived experience runs through every level of the organisation, and SANE's services have been designed and informed by people living with complex mental health needs.
You can feel comfortable reaching out to SANE for support knowing our organisation's resources are overseen by a governance team of mental health professionals.
SANE has a variety of factsheets and guides available that provide insight into mental illnesses, the symptoms, treatments and effective coping strategies.
If you're interested in real, personal stories from people living with complex mental health diagnoses, SANE's People Like Us page shares the lived experiences of people in our community.
Schizophrenia has been a big topic over the past few days, and it's important to remember during times like this that not everyone's journey through mental illness is the same. Staying informed and seeking knowledge is powerful. At SANE we understand what it's like to face and challenge stigma, because we're people like you.

John Nash's life, portrayed in "A Beautiful Mind," sheds light on his battle with schizophrenia. While the film captures his struggles with hallucinations and paranoia, Nash's real journey was both similar and different.
