Operating since 1955, with over 3,000 local community volunteers Can Assist has some 56 branches across country NSW. Their mission is to make sure everyone across country NSW can access cancer treatment and care. Each year they provide between $2 and $3.0 in financial assistance across more than 3,000 patients and 15,000 requests to make this happen. Our group classes have been really popular this year. Do you know we run over 40 classes every week helping over 600 people stay active and strong across the Rural Fit network? This is what some of our lovely class members have said about our activities in the Armidale clinic.
“But let me leave you with this extraordinary fact: in the last few years, study after study has shown that people who don't do any exercise have a five times greater risk of dying in that year than those who exercise regularly.
That risk of dying is three times higher than the damaging impact of smoking. That's how important it is to exercise.”
Thanks to
for this fantastic factual insight into the importance of moving.

"There's simply nothing that compares to having a high degree of cardio-respiratory fitness ...., having a high degree of muscle mass ... and having high strength." Dr Attia Author of 'Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity'.
"If you take an individual who is doing nothing, we know pretty clearly that exercise, will [significantly] reduce their all-cause mortality — meaning their death from any cause," he says.
"We simply don't have other interventions that come close to that," he argues.
The team at Rural Fit Exercise Physiology love this message from Dr Attia - we know that moving your body more as you age is the biggest contributor to quality of life and reducing your risk of premature death.
