Hello everyone 👋
As it has been a while and there are many new faces to the page recently I thought I would reintroduce myself with 5 facts you may not know:
🌼 I have been working in the Women’s Health/Pelvic Health Physiotherapy space for over a decade now. I did an elective placement as a university student at the Mater Mothers Hospital in Brisbane and I completed my Introductory course as a new grad and have never stopped learning since!
🌼 I am originally from Townsville (born and raised) but lived overseas in London for 4.5 years. During that time I was lucky enough to be able to travel to 25+ countries
🌼 I have a fur child 😂 my dog Cooper is a 2 year old border collie and the vast majority of my income/time goes towards making sure he has the life he deserves 🐶
🌼 As a teenager I participated in martial arts and worked hard to get my second degree black belt in Choi Kwang Do
🌼 I was high school music captain, played the violin and piano and sung in the choir and jazz band. Now my singing is only reserved for the car or shower.
I hope this gives a little bit of insight into my world. It has been so great getting to work with people everyday to help them feel better. I hope I am lucky enough to be able to do this job for many years to come.

Osteoporosis vs osteopaenia
What’s the difference?
Osteopaenia is often the beginning of osteoporosis. The density of the bone has often become weaker and more susceptible of breaking. If left untreated osteopaenia can progress to osteoporosis.
Ideally early detection is key. Particularly if you have a family history of osteoporosis.
You can ask your GP about getting a bone density scan to keep an eye on your bone health.
🌸🌸 Birth Preparation 🤰🤰
In honor of women’s health week I thought it was only fitting to launch Wholesome’s newest appointment type- Birth Preparation.
This appointment is for any expectant mothers who feel they need a little more information about how to physically prepare themselves for birth and how to best look after yourself in the initial postpartum period.
This appointment is 45mins and is most suitable for women around 34 weeks (the closer to this time the better as sometimes you birth sooner than anticipated 😅) so that the information is fresh in your mind and the tips given in the appointment are practical and can be implemented straight away.
You can book a birth preparation appointment online using the link in our bio or by calling (07) 4569 6245.
🚽 Constipation 🚽
An issue which plagues many and often people feel they just have to live with it.
This is not the case!
A multi-factorial approach including visiting a women’s health physio is often the best way to achieve long term success. Chronic constipation can lead to a myriad of other pelvic floor issues and if addressed sooner rather than later these are completely preventable.
Wanting to rebuild abdominal strength postpartum?
Here are some exercise ideas. All of these exercises can easily be regressed if they are too challenging.
As always speak to a qualified women’s health physio for specific medical advice and a program that is best suited to you individual needs.
When should I see a Women’s Health Physio after pregnancy 🤰
Basically anytime from six weeks onwards!
There is an exception to the six week rule:
🌻 If during birth you were told that you sustained an OASI (obstetric a**l sphincter injury OR a 3rd or 4th degree tear) then ideally we would love to see you at around 3 weeks postpartum. Note a vaginal examination is not performed at this time however a visual examination and other assessments can be. Ideally getting the right management and advice to you sooner can really assist with your recovery.
🌻The other exception is if you notice/feel that anything is not normal or particularly concerning you can contact your women’s health physio sooner.
When should I see a Women’s Health Physio during pregnancy?
The short answer… anytime from the second trimester onwards!
If we can screen for any risk factors (pelvic floor or otherwise) earlier in pregnancy there is more time to make changes which can help with labour and birth outcomes.
It is estimated that approximately 1/3 of women will reflexively contract their pelvic floor when told to relax. Which is not ideal if planning for a vaginal delivery. Working with a pelvic floor PT can help increase awareness of what the pelvic floor is doing and help with ‘down training’ or relaxing the pelvic floor in preparation for birth.
In addition a women’s health PT should be able to offer advice on how to best care and nurture for your changing body to prevent any unwanted injuries and general aches and pains.
Get to know the wonderful team!

🤰Should I exercise during pregnancy 🤰
The short answer…yes!
The Australian Government Department of Health has released guidelines surrounding safe exercise and remaining active during pregnancy.
Of course every woman is different and will have different needs, pre-pregnancy levels of fitness, energy levels etc but remaining active throughout your pregnancy can have some great benefits.
Some of which include:
🌻 decreased risk of pregnancy complications such as pre-eclampsia and pregnancy induced hypertension
🌻 reduced back and pelvic pain
🌻 increased energy
🌻 prevention and management of urinary incontinence
🌻 stress relief
As always if you are unsure whether or not you should be exercising during your pregnancy please check with your birth provider or women’s health physio.

🤰 Can I prepare my pelvic floor for birth? 🤰
Yes you absolutely can! A Women’s Health Physiotherapist can help you with pelvic floor muscle training (including down training) of your pelvic floor as well as guidance on the correct technique for perineal stretching.
Both of these have been shown to reduce labour duration, decrease the likelihood of developing incontinence and decrease the risk of a significant birth injury.
