the weather was kind to bike riders on their first leg (Townsville to Ingham) of the CHILDREN’S CANCER TOWNSVILLE TO CAIRNS BIKE RIDE. As the riders rode into the Ingham Showgrounds, the INGHAM LIONS CLUB members were cooking sausages for them. This bike ride is an annual event which raises funds for children’s cancer. Ingham Lions Club donates $500 every year to this event and is proud to be part of this event. We wish the riders and their support staff a safe and enjoyable ride today, as they do the 2nd leg of the ride(Ingham to Innisfail)
ALHD “Sunshine” was placed last week and will now be giving her recipient independence and security both at home and in public.
Sunshine will be alerting with a one paw touch, which she is demonstrating beautifully in her picture, to sounds in the home like doorbells, timers and alarm clocks. Once she touches, she leads her recipient back to the source of the sound. The only sound that is different to this is the smoke alarm where she will touch and drop in a warning signal.
Sunshine was named and sponsored by Lions Club of Sunshine! We thank them for the wonderful support of her in the puppy program and then when she was in training.
We thank his puppy socialisers Kellie who initially socialised and then Bronte who cared for her in the later parts of puppyhood. A fantastic effort by all!

Continuing on with National Diabetes Week, we congratulate Medical Alert Dog "Belle" and her recipient for their recent accreditation. 💚
Belle is a Diabetic Alert Dog who has been trained to alert to changes in blood glucose levels when they fall outside of the recipient's target range. Belle recently passed her Public Access Test and tasks with her recipient and is now an officially accredited Assistance Dog.
We thank the Lions Club of Athelstone-Rostrevor for their time and dedication for Belle's follow-up training during the twelve-week follow-up period. The dedication of their members has helped set up the pair for a long and successful working life together.
We also thank everyone else involved in Belle's journey to become the beautiful Medical Alert Dog that she is today.

Did you know that this week is National Diabetes Week? 💚
We can't think of a better way to start it off than to introduce you to our newest Medical Alert Dog trainee "Mimi".
Mimi is the first to enter training from Guardian Daisy's beautiful litter. She was lovingly named and sponsored by the sponsored by the Lions of Charles Sturt Woodville Hindmarsh. We thank them for their ongoing support and are excited to continue to update them through Mimi's training.
We would love to thank Mimi's puppy carers Christie and Jai for their hard work and dedication into giving Mimi the best start to her Assistance Dog Career. They have done a wonderful job in guiding her through the Puppy Program. 🐾
The theme of this year's National Diabetes Week is 'Unite in the flight for tech'. Did you know that we only deliver our dogs to type 1 diabetics with technology? Our Medical Alert Dogs work in conjunction with technology and act as the first barrier to alerting for a low or high Blood Glucose Level (BGL).
Keep an eye out for more posts this week to celebrate National Diabetes Week. For more information please visit https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/national-diabetes-week/
