Townsville Train Park - T.D.S.M.E

Hi all,
As you may be aware, Our June run days coincide with close timing to the V8 Supercars event, and the barriers on boundary street are in full swing!

There is only one access gap to the park, so that space will get extremely busy. For those coming East along Boundary street past office works, the right turn into the park can be very hair raising at the best of times. 500m further down the road there is a turning lane into the Townsville State High School visitor car park, where a U-turn can be negotiated much more safely.

We would like to ask patrons to keep the area marked red clear of vehicles and picnics as this will be required to maintain access. We will have signage up to help with this and please be considerate of others when parking as to not block anyone in.

There is additional on street parking and access via First and Second Avenues, Railway Estate. Pedestrian access gates are marked with an orange X, and Track crossings marked with light blue X.

The car park opposite office works is also only a short walk away.

We have two confirmed privately owned steam locos Wilmar Sugar Australia 🚂 and Bravus Mining and Resources coal fired Blue Lady 🚂 rostered for passenger services off our station platform 3.
Another Steamer, The Spirit of Innisfail 🚂 is also planned for Sunday 🤞🏼 and travelling down from Innisfail for your enjoyment 😃
Our club's diesel locos are also being prepared for Sunday passenger services.

Yes we are running this morning!

Due to unforseen circumstances we are down one steam locomotive and one outline locomotive, so we please ask that guests be patient and understanding that the rides will be a little bit shorter today and ques will be moving a little slower. We will be trying our best to keep everyone moving!

The good news is our private members steam locos,the Wilmar coal fired Heidi and the Bravus coal fired Blue Lady will be back in action after their long summer break. 🚂🚂

Both steam locos have had extensive maintenance work over their 'holiday' in the loco shed and will be hauling passenger services from our station No. 3 at the Townsville Train Park station.

Hi all, who's excited for this weekend! 😁

Just a friendly reminder for this Sundays run day and the footwear requirements. 👞👟🥾👢

Fully enclosed footwear is required by all patrons, that are using their own feet, to ride the miniature trains.🚂🚄

We have had a recent increase in discussions with guests about their footwear, and mentioning they have been allowed to ride last time in the same footwear.

Sometimes you may slip through the cracks on occasion, our volunteers may miss something. We can't flawlessly monitor the 2,500+ feet that come through the gate on a run day!

Open toe shoes are not suitable in any form. ❌👡🙅‍♀️
Footwear is required to have something around the back of the foot to hold it on.❌🩴🙅‍♂️
Crocs, even with the strap around the back, are not suitable as we all know they can still fall off.

We still have a pile of loaner shoes for those that drop in last minute and are desperate to avoid disappointment, but I'm sure everyone prefers their own shoes. 😁

We are just starting to wrap up the day!

Train Park Likers - You amazed us with your generous support again on Saturday's Twilight Run at Townsville Train Park.

In just over 2.5hrs operating our miniature train services we transported 1,215 passenger rides around our track. 🚂🚃 🚅

All three Club locos - DH11, T-class 375 and 2800 (reserve loco), plus the privately owned ANR EL51 were busy hauling passengers.

We had a surprise appearance of the great steam loco the QR BB18 1/4 "Spirit of Innisfail", but she had problems with derailing on several occasions near our station points and had to be retired from service to effect repairs. Which was disappointing and we apologise to our supporters for any inconvenience experienced.

Big thanks to the Townsville City Council South West Parks and Garden crew 👏 for the great prep work to our parklands, just before the public running day.
Their huge effort reduces our volunteer members' workload in park maintenance, so we can focus on maintaining our miniature railway rollingstock and track permanent way.

Now book the day of Sunday 28 April 🗓️ from 10:00am - 1:00 pm for the next public running day at Townsville Train Park !!!.

Townsville Train Park likers, we have a new public running day for our miniature railway on Saturday 6 April from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

Yes, April is the new March !! 😄 With the PINK concert and then the following Easter long weekend, where several of our volunteers will be away holidaying, we have locked in Saturday 6 April for Townsville's monthly fix of Queensland's longest miniature railway 🚅 🚉.

We will have the usual coffee and food from Benvenuti Espresso on offer that afternoon.

EFTPOS 💲 available for our $ 7.00 unlimited ticket price.

Remember that closed shoes 👟👞👢for all big and little passengers is required on our miniature railway.

We have some good news and some bad news! 😁😟

The bad news is that we won't be running this weekend. 😌

Despite our volunteers' best efforts working tirelessly since the passing of TC Kirrily (and the mini storm Tuesday night adding more to the collection), we have unfortunately been unable to bring the park and Miniature Railway back up to an acceptable standard to ensure the continued safe operation for our guests.

The safe operation of our Miniature railway is of paramount importance to us. We always strive to ensure everyone can have a fun and enjoyable day out, and most importantly, doing it safely.

The good news that we will be good-to-go for our February Twilight run on Saturday 24th, from 4pm-7pm. Get in early and lock it into the calendar for a great day out!

For those that are new, welcome!
As usual, it will be$7 for unlimited rides and remember that fully enclosed footwear is required to ride the trains.

Hi loyal followers!

Tomorrow's twilight run has been cancelled until we can clean the park up and inspect for damage, to make sure everything is safe and ready to go again.

Initial assessments the Train Park has received mostly cosmetic damage: of lots of green litter of branches and leaves around the parkland.

Tomorow morning from 9AM we are having a working bee at the park to clean up and assess. Any and all help is welcome! We will update the community with what is happening for further runs as we find out more.

Well Townsville Train Park likers, we are ready to operate our first Twilight miniature train services for 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm this Saturday 27 January.

Our volunteer members were busy in the heat on the weekend doing all the behind the scenes maintenance and track work for a safe and fun miniature train twilight run.
We have four diesel locomotives 🚆🚅 with four sets of six passenger wagons sets on roster to operate. 😁

BUT ..... we are keeping a very close look on cyclone Kirrily (05U) and its track towards the coast and possibly Townsville. The rain even during and following the cyclone's path, may make Saturday's Twilight miniature train services unpleasant 🌧️🌬️ ☔

We will make the call near Saturday if all miniature trains are operating or have been cancelled via this page. We will keep you updated as our historical railway station is in the low area of Train Park and gets flooded in high rain events 🫣

A lot of effort clearing the parkland of leaf litter and track maintenance was conducted by our small band of volunteers on Sunday.

The TCC Parks team were mowing, trimming trees, cutting hedges and dropping mulch around our parkland. It is dry weather and no green grass 😔, but the parkland is look sharp due to the TCC Park n Gardens team. THANKYOU 👏👍

Train Park miniature railway starts the hot weather Twilight Run roster, this Saturday 28 October, with train services operating from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Townsville Train Park 😁

There will be four diesel locos on roster hauling multiple train services with over 100 passengers on the track at any time. So minimal waiting times are expected. 🚆 🚄 🚅 🚉

There will be no last Sunday of each month's train services, until April 2024 as we will run the welcomed afternoon Twilight schedule on the last Saturday of each month in October, November, January, February and March.

Hi everyone!

As most regulars are aware, you need fully enclosed footwear 👟 to ride our miniature trains.🚂🚃🚃

Some people come down spur of them moment driving past and don't know, and sometimes we just forget!

We like to have a stash of loaner shoes for this situation, but our shoe pile has been dwindling over the years.

If any of our followers have spare shoes burning a hole in their closet that you are disposing of (particularly teenager to adults sizes), we would greatly appreciate the donation.

There is a tub on the veranda behind the sign marked in the picture, and our volunteers will empty out and transfer when we are down there.

Thank you to our lovely community for your support, without you we wouldn't be here.

It was a lovely day today, we started off with 2 steam and 3 diesel-outline services, which kept the queues moving incredibly quickly! It didn't take long to start seeing the same friendly faces on for back-to-back rides. We transported 1,170 passengers in the 3 hours that we were operating.

A quick reminder that coming into the warmer months, we will be moving to Saturday afternoon twilight runs, with the next one falling on the 28th of October.
