Unfortunately that concludes the season for our male teams, however our open and under 18s women’s sides will both be playing finals matches this weekend at Ziems!
Special mention and congratulations to Matt Payne who made his first grade debut on the weekend. Matt was apart of our 18s team this year however his consistency in his training and performances left no choice but to give him an opportunity, to which he didn’t disappoint. Thankyou to Matt’s family for being there to present him his jersey, hopefully the first of many games for Matt in the top grade.

Cougars family and wider Corrimal community could you please read below a message we have received, which is a request in assisting a local family that has fallen on hard times. Also attached is a poster for an up coming event that is being held to help raise some much needed funds. Thankyou in advance for your support of this very worthy cause.
“ Gary and Bronwyn Hart have lived in their home at Lachlan St Thirroul all of their married life and raised their sons Tristan and Ben there. The home was also Gary’s family home since birth.
For the past 35+ years Gary and Bronwyn have both put all their time and efforts whilst both working, into the local communities through their involvement in the rugby league world.
Coaching teams, involvement in the committees of juniors and seniors, running water and strapping for teams for the past 35 seasons.
They started with their eldest son Tristan’s Thirroul team 35 years ago and continued into senior league with clubs:
* Thirroul
* Corrimal
* University
* Mittagong
* St George Illawarra
* Illawarra region representative teams
* Collegians
* Helensburgh
* Port Kembla
* Warilla
* Mounties
* Canterbury- Bankstown
* South Sydney.
The recent flooding in the Illawarra on April 6 directly affected them for the third time since 1998 flooding.
That Saturday morning in the early hours the creek across the road from them broke its bank, came through with raging force and pushed all their furniture in the home to their back wall.
The water built up and trapped them in their own home. The continued rush of water eventually forced the back windows out and the ensuing rush of water engulfed them both and they were caught up in the flow of the escaping waters. Life threatening for them and devastating for their home as all their home furniture and possessions were taken away by the surge. They have nothing left. They are unable to live in their home again.
Due to this having been an event that had also happened twice before and by no means anything they could have prevented they were priced out of cover by insurance companies. Gary is a registered carer for Bronwyn, and unfortunately, by both having access to their superannuation they are unable to get any government assistance.
As a friend and a local resident I am arranging a get together with other members of the rugby league community for a barefoot bowls fundraiser day at Club Thirroul on July 14th at 10.00am.
What I need is help from Clubs and groups in donations for raffle prizes and auction prizes. I have made contact with a number of people and will be hitting the streets next week at Thirroul for whatever we can arrange to help raise funds to get Gary and Bronwyn not only back on their feet but also to show them that they are important members of the community and show them much needed support. Hopefully you may be able to lend some support to these people.
Kind Regards,
Marion Cook
