Abilities in Motion

This September 6th here at Abilities in Motion, we acknowledge Color Blindness Awareness day. Color vision deficiency affects approximately 1 in 12 men, and 1 in 200 women worldwide. If you are colorblind, or have a friend that is color blind, the (twitter handle) / Color Blind Awareness organization has an active community of color blind people to which you can share experiences, seek advice, and support. Whether it be discussing the latest challenges, this community is an awesome resource for those seeking more support, information, and connection.

September 1st-30th Is World Alzheimer's Awareness Month

There are many ways to get involved with World Alzheimer’s Month, whether it be sharing messages on social media or attending events hosted by local Alzheimers and Dementia societies. This month, Abilities in Motion acknowledges the importance of raising awareness and challenging the stigma that persists concerning types of dementia in society, and Alzheimer's disease.

YOU are invited this Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 4:30 PM to attend the International Paddling Film Festival! Located at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140, 95 Kirk Street, in Clinton, Ontario.

Tickets cost $25 and include a barbeque dinner. All funds raised are in support of our local Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary unit and Abilities In Motion!

The Paddling Film Festival is an international adventure film tour presenting the world’s best paddling films of the year – whitewater, sea kayaking, canoeing, SUP, action and lifestyle – in more than 120 cities and towns across Canada, United States and around the world!

The Legion bar will be open for beverages, information and booths will also be setup. Food is available between 5:00 and 6:00 with films beginning at 6:00. The festival will wrap-up at 10:00.

What a wonderful experience with our adapted paddling events this summer! In partnership with Abilities in Motion, kids and youth with disabilities had the opportunity to try paddling in a safe and inclusive environment.

With adapted equipment provided by Abilities in Motion, everyone had a chance to get in the water regardless of their abilities!

Yesterday marked Cory Vale’s last day with AIM, and we wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for his incredible contributions over the past few years.

Since 2019, his unwavering commitment has made a significant impact on our organization and the lives we touch. From day one, he has embodied the true spirit of volunteering, dedicating his time, skills, and compassion to our cause.

Jennifer recently had her first kayaking experience with Abilities in Motion!

"I loved it. The only thing that I struggled with was to keep my paddle straight because there's a button on the top of the paddle that you have to line up. I had to keep readjusting to feel where that button is.

Because it's my first time, I'm going to try wearing gloves next time. So I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

Everybody here does everything they can to keep you safe. It's really worth doing, and it's a good way for us to get outdoors and be active."
