The Ontario Envirothon is part of the larger Envirothon network that engages youth to learn more about the natural world around them. This is achieved through curriculum resources, interactive workshops, and competitive testing. The 2024 iNaturalist Project has come to an end and participants submitted and impressive 584 observations of 311 species! Thank you to everyone who took part, your observations helped contribute to science in Ontario.

With the provincial competition wrapped, we wanted to thank all our participants, volunteers, presenters, and judges for their contribution to this year's event. Seventeen teams from across Ontario have gathered at Waterloo's Faculty of Environment to put their hard-earned knowledge about forests, soils, wildlife, aquatic ecosystems, and biodiversity in a changing climate to the test! 🎉 Congratulations to Milliken Mills High School in the City of Markham for placing first, Stouffville District Secondary School in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and St. Augustine Catholic High School in the City of Markham who tied for second place and Bayview Secondary School in the City of Richmond Hill for placing third.
Milliken Mills High School received a commemorative plaque and will move on to compete in the 2024 Ontario Envirothon Competition May 26 to 29 at the University of Waterloo. Well done and good luck!

The Algoma Envirothon competition wrapped up over the weekend marking the conclusion of another season of regional events. Thanks to Algoma Highlands Conservancy for overseeing such a tremendous event, to the participating students and educators for their enthusiasm and to the volunteers for sharing their expertise!
Thunder Bay recently wrapped up their regional competition and it was an amazingly successful day! Congratulations to all the participating students and educators!

High school students participate in re-energized Grey-Bruce envirothon Two teams from local high schools took part in the Grey-Bruce Regional Envirothon at Sauble Beach on Wednesday.

The Championships are returning, in-person, to the University of Waterloo from May 26-29 and we need volunteers to help make it happen! Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles including workshop assistants, trail guides, room monitors and presentation judges.

Yesterday, students were fully engaged and ready to branch out their knowledge at the Toronto Workshop hosted at Downsview Park. Students from seven teams spend the day learning about core topics including forestry, soils, aquatic ecosystems (thanks EcoSpark!) and wildlife in preparation for the upcoming regional competition.
The 2024 season is in full swing. Last week students in Niagara braved rainy weather for their outdoor workshop day at Balls Falls Conservation Area. Thanks to Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority for hosting a successful training day and for students, teachers and volunteers for their enthusiasm!

Envirothon engages youth and encourages them to foster a connection with nature while developing important critical thinking and communication skills. A unique team-based program, the Ontario Envirothon challenges students to learn more about the natural world around them, focusing on forests, soils, wildlife, and aquatic ecosystems, plus an annually changing current issue topic.
The Grey/Bruce Regional Competition will be held on May 1, 2024 at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp.
