Happy Black History Month from Blacks for all races. This year 2024, the theme of the Government of Canada is " Black Excellence"- A Heritage to Celebrate. A Future to Build.
The City of Barrie commemorates the Black History Month 2024. Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.
The 2024 theme for Black History Month is: “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build”. This theme celebrates the rich past and present contributions and accomplishments of Black people in Canada, while aspiring to embrace new opportunities for the future.
The theme aligns with the 10th year of the International Decade for People of African Descent and recognizes that people of African descent represent a distinct group whose human rights must be promoted and protected.
No matter where you live, we invite all Canadians to learn more about Black Canadian communities, and how they continue to help shape Canada.
BFAR launched an intervention program to assist the stranded newcomers to Canada who were facing severe and dire living conditions due to housing issues. Rita Ewane from BFAR led the delegate. BFAR also initiated a winter gear drive in Barrie shortly before Christmas last year. A big thanks to all the wonderful donors and everyone else who actively supported the success of our quest. It was all a community effort which ended up creating joy in the community.
The "Say My Name" Project created by the Inactive Club at Georgian College seeks to reduce the challenges of inequality in our community. BFAR is excited to partner with Lakehead University in delivering placement opportunities for post-secondary students.
