RBN = People of Action! Rotary Burlington North is a passionate group of people with a strong sense of fun and community service.
We undertake hands-on projects locally and around the world to improve peopleโs lives. Below are a few examples of our work. Fundraising activities include the annual Turkey Trot Race and the Rotary Online Auction. We meet Friday's at 7am via Zoom. Sorting and Cavorting at Food for Life! Folks from Rotary Burlington North met at Food For Life this morning to help sort produce. The team sorted the 'good from the bad' and netted 3000 lbs of high quality fresh oranges and lemons. The food packed today will go to people in need throughout halton on Monday. Thank you Food Food for Life for the important work you do in our community. We appreciate being a small part of your success!
Diane was laying down on the job again!๐ we are always incredibly grateful for all of the furniture donations we receive from the Burlington Community for the our ongoing Furniture Project. Kate, Clinton, Linda, Bill, Wil and Shayne were out picking up donations from 14 donors today!๐ This project helps those living in extreme furniture poverty with free furniture and saves good quality items from going to the landfill.โค๏ธ

The 4 Rotary Clubs of Burlington had the honour of hosting a number of Canadian Veterans this past week. Andy Barber, a Korean War veteran, was guest speaker for the event. Several students from Rotary's Interact clubs in Halton also attended the event in respect of the service and dedication of our veterans.

This week marks Treaties Recognition Week from November 5-11. Treaties Recognition Week represents one of many steps on Ontarioโs journey of healing and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. You can learn more from Maurice Switzer, a citizen of Alderville First Nation, where his grandfather Moses Muskrat Marsden was Chief from 1905-1909. He lives in North Bay and is a member of the Washushk (Mississauga) and Okwaho (Kanien'keha) clans. Maurice delivers presentations on treaty recognition as a key element of the reconciliation process and talks about issues related to the Williams Treaty.

The Rotary Burlington North Furniture Project, which helps women and children leaving shelters as well as refugee families who are living in furniture poverty - has immediate need for clean mattresses, box springs, bed frames and TVโs with table top stands. World Polio Day is tomorrow, Tuesday Oct 24th. In honor of this occasion, and to recognize the efforts of Rotarians around the world working to end this disease, the 'End Polio Now' flag was raised today at Burlington City Hall. Members from the 4 Burlington Rotary Clubs were on hand to hear the City Clerk read the official proclamation.

Our Furniture Project crew (from left to right Diane, Kate, Clinton, Linda and Bill, Terry) had a very productive day yesterday picking up donations from generous Burlington donors. We managed to convince one of our donors, Chodagh, to get a picture of her on our trailer loading ramp sitting on 1 of 2 beautiful loveseats that she donated. Thanks so much Chodagh!!!
