What brings you to yoga? Because ultimately, we are looking to boost our energy levels to feel more active and alive throughout the day. Yoga is an incredible way to increase vitality and sustain energy.

When we go through our day, our energy levels can fluctuate. Yoga helps regulate these ups and downs, offering a steady source of physical and mental energy. Through mindful breathing and movement, yoga enhances circulation, reduces stress, and balances our body's energy.

Poses like Sun Salutations and backbends are particularly effective at invigorating the body and mind. These practices stimulate blood flow and awaken the nervous system, leaving you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.

This world has taught us to have high expectations of ourselves (and others), and that when expectations aren't met, we are a failure. This is why many people worry about not meeting expectations in yoga.

The truth is, yoga isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress and self-discovery. It's easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others or trying to meet some imagined standard. But let's redefine what success means in yoga. Success is showing up, listening to your body, and celebrating your unique journey.

I’ve been through this myself. There were times I felt like I wasn't good enough or that I needed to push harder to meet expectations. But I learned that yoga is about finding joy in the process, not just the end result. Every time you step on the mat, you’re winning.

At Jai Yoga Studio, we embrace this philosophy. Our community is here to support you, wherever you are on your path. We believe in creating a space where you can explore, grow, and feel good about your practice without any pressure.

Curious to redefine your own yoga success? Comment "real yoga" below to get info about our 30-day intro offer—30 days of unlimited classes for just $59, commitment-free. It's time to let go of expectations and start your journey with us today. 🌟

That time when vulnerability became my superpower. It began with a panic attack in 2008. - https://mailchi.mp/jai-yoga/when-judgement-changed-me-17280592

Isn't it interesting how right after a moment of darkness, you have a beautiful opportunity to learn the greatest lessons in life.

Who knew a panic attack back in 2008 would instigate the foundation of the direction I was about to take in life? That moment taught me I have nothing to prove to anyone. That my happiness and joy is in my hands, not others.

We know what holds you back -- a fear of overcrowded yoga classes. So let's talk about that.

This is an experience we don't want: to be squeezed into a packed room, struggling to find space for our body to move and for our hearts to breath in order to fully enjoy the yoga experience.

To address that, at Jai Yoga Studio, your comfort is our commitment. We understand how important it is to have space to breathe, move, and truly connect with your practice. That's why we carefully manage class sizes to ensure you have the best possible experience. We strictly limit the size of classes and we also have markers placed on the floor telling you where to place your mat, so that you have enough space to practice.

By creating a more intimate and comfortable setting, we aim to make every class your special place where you can focus on your growth and well-being.

I know that fear too well. That fear of commitment when visiting a yoga studio.

And I totally get it. Stepping into a yoga studio can be intimidating, especially if you're worried about commitment and the potential for change. It's natural to fear the unknown and worry about whether you’re making the right choice.

But here's the thing—I'm just glad you're here. Whether you’re ready to dive in or just testing the waters, your presence means everything to me, to Jai and to our instructors. Yoga is a deeply personal journey, and it's okay to take it one step at a time.

We believe in building a community based on trust and connection. Our space is welcoming and inclusive, designed to support you wherever you are on your path. No pressure, no judgment—just a warm, supportive environment to explore your practice.

Yoga teaches us to be present, to listen to our inner selves, and to find peace in the moment. It’s about more than just physical practice; it’s a spiritual journey that transforms us from the inside out.

Let's talk about something real—imposter syndrome. Ever walked into a place and felt like everyone else has it all figured out except you? Trust me, we've all been there. Even *I* am feeling it right now. I feel like an imposter all the time.

As someone who advocates for mental health, wellness, body positivity, and inclusivity in the yoga world, I often feel out of place in an industry that can be so focused on fitness and aesthetics. I’ve questioned whether my message truly belongs in this space. But then, I remember the teachings of Karma Yoga from the Bhagavad Gita, which reminds us to keep going and stay true to our path.

"Set thy heart upon thy work, but never on its reward." - Bhagavad Gita

This quote encourages me to focus on my intentions and actions, rather than getting caught up in external validations or comparisons. My purpose is to create a welcoming and inclusive space at Jai Yoga Studio, where everyone feels valued and supported, regardless of their fitness level or appearance.

At Jai Yoga Studio, we believe in fostering an environment where mental health, wellness, and body positivity are at the forefront. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, you belong here.

I will be the first to admit this: I am a people pleaser.

No matter how hard I tried in the past, I would always seek the validation of others. I don't know how I ended up this way. My parents did a great job in raising me to become an independent woman.

But even my earliest memories are of me wanting to be "a good girl."

What does it mean to be "good?" To be accepted by others, no matter the cost?

So you can imagine that standing up for myself and using my voice to be heard has been a lifelong challenge for me. And when I became a mom, I developed a new sense of urgency to put an end to my people pleasing tendencies for my sake and for my son's sake.

Watching Laapataa Ladies on Netflix taught me how to do that. Comment "Happy" to read the full story on what it taught me.

Are you a people pleaser too? What helps you to stand your ground?

Let's break down a big, scary word today: vulnerability.

What’s the big deal with being vulnerable?

Vulnerability means showing up as your real self, imperfections and all. It’s tossing the “perfect” out and bringing the “authentic” in. In yoga, that means acknowledging when what you're experiencing in class is tough, that’s totally okay.

Here’s why it matters: when you embrace where you really are in your practice, that’s when the magic happens. You give yourself the space to grow, to improve, and to conquer the challenges that seemed too big before. It’s not about how you look, it’s about how you feel and grow.

At Jai Yoga, we’re all about creating a place where everyone can feel safe to be themselves. We cheer for every step forward, no matter how small.

Ready to let go of fear and step into your power? Dive into vulnerability with us and see how it transforms not just your yoga practice, but your whole outlook on life. Check out our special Introductory Offer and get 30 days of unlimited classes for just $59! Link in bio to sign up!

This week, I share a story that many of you have probably experienced in some shape or form before - feeling shame and guilt about our bodies.

I grew up in the nineties where "heroine chic" was considered...well...chic. and I had internalized a lot of toxic belief systems about my body. As a teenager, I hated my body so much, I chose to hide behind books because books don't judge you like people do.

When I was in my twenties, I realized that these thoughts were no longer serving me. So I began to rewire my belief system. I began to love myself just how I wanted others to love me. But just as I felt like I got the hang of it all, one day in Whistler someone judged me and my body harshly when I needed help and asked "Why are you so fat then?"

Comment "mountain" for the full story.

What's your story? Have you ever been judged harshly by someone? What did you do to overcome the pain of being judged? Share your story with us in the comments.

Love evolves into more love.

***

I met Jai for the first time in 2011. Fresh out of university, I traveled to India with my parents for my cousin's wedding. After five years of intense studying, I desperately needed a vacation. While in Delhi, my parents visited a dentist, and I decided to get a check-up too. The dentist told me I needed major dental surgery because I "eat too much pizza." 🙄 This news shattered my hopes for a fun vacation.

As the designated drama queen of my family, I was very dramatic about it. I remember telling my mom, "my joy of living life has been robbed by this dentist." lol

My dad suggested we get a second opinion. So, we visited Jai's house. Our dads were good friends, and my dad knew Jai had just completed his dentistry degree. I sat in Jai's living room, feeling totally down. Jai noticed my mood and thought I had an attitude problem. My parents explained what the other dentist had said, and Jai examined my teeth. He said, "there's nothing to worry about, your teeth are absolutely fine!" I lit up, all my inner drama vanished. "REALLY?" I exclaimed with a huge smile. Jai felt butterflies seeing my reaction. From then on, I kept "bumping" into him throughout my trip. With each conversation with him, I fell more in love.

We exchanged numbers and quickly went from friends to something more. Back in Ireland, we began a long-distance relationship that lasted until we married in 2014.

Our life goals were so different then. I wanted a career in science marketing or communication (ask me about it at the studio sometime). Jai aimed to work in Canada as a dentist. Pursuing these dreams drained us, and by 2018, we hit a breaking point.

We realized we didn't love what we were doing, and life is too short to be mundane. We wanted to fill our lives with love and joy. One autumn morning in 2018, we both woke up with the same idea: "Let's bring joy to people's lives through yoga. Let's open a yoga studio." And from our love of life and each other, that's how Jai Yoga was born.

It's time to have an honest conversation about this common fear in the yoga world: you know - the whole "I'm not flexible enough" thing? Yeah, we've all been there, trying to reach our toes and feeling like everyone’s watching. ⚠️ Spoiler alert: they’re not.

At Jai Yoga, even us as yoga teachers have had our fair share of toe-touching fails. Yoga’s not actually about being flexible; it’s about showing up, breathing deeply, and enjoying the journey. We’re all about community here, and that means embracing the wobbles, the falls, and the moments when you can’t help but giggle.

Yoga is for everyone, whether you can touch your toes or barely reach your knees. It’s not about judgment; it’s about the journey. Every slip-up and every little victory brings us closer together.

So, if you’ve ever thought, “I’m not flexible enough for yoga,” then guess what? You’re our kind of person. At Jai Yoga, we’re all about growth—physically, mentally, and even humorously. We’re here to support each other and have a good time doing it.

After a long and necessary hiatus, I'm thrilled to be back in this social media space with you all!

The reason for my break? Just three months ago, Jai and I were blessed to welcome our beautiful baby boy, Jawand Singh, into our lives. Many of you might not know this, but we've been dreaming of this moment since 2018. My journey to motherhood was all-consuming; I dove deep into holistic treatments, doctor's appointments, and was literally inhaling supplements that promised to help with fertility.

Looking back on those six years, every challenge with my fertility taught me resilience, strength, and compassion, and most importantly, the power of surrender. These lessons, unbeknownst to me then, were merely prep work for the even tougher postpartum period I faced.

Jawand's birth by C-section led to a severe infection, initially misdiagnosed as a UTI. What followed were days of high fevers, ER visits, and a necessary fight for my health that included a second surgery to treat an abscess. Throughout it all, changing a single diaper felt monumental, and there were moments I felt utterly defeated - physically and mentally. I felt like a failure to my baby, to my husband and to myself. Yet, these struggles reaffirmed the strength I’d learned over the years through my yoga practice—strength I needed more than ever.

Thankfully now, I am finally doing well and getting physically stronger everyday.

Now, more connected and empowered by my recent experiences, Jai and I understand the true importance of inner strength and advocating for one's health. Yoga didn't just help me physically; it saved my spirit. Isn’t it amazing how past challenges shape our resilience for future ones?

If our journey speaks to you or if you’ve faced similar challenges, please share your story with us in the comments ❤️

Delve into the transformative expedition of yoga—an inner journey that leads you to the essence of self. 🌟💖 The Bhagavad Gita explains that the "journey of the self" signifies the exploration and understanding of one's inner being, while "through the self" emphasizes the process of self-discovery—navigating through layers of thoughts, emotions, and conditioning. The culmination, "to the self," implies the ultimate goal: a harmonious connection with the authentic self.

In essence, this quote from the Bhagavad Gita embodies the holistic essence of yoga, urging practitioners to embark on an inner quest, unravelling the complexities of the self and ultimately realizing a profound unity with their true essence.

At Jai Yoga, we delve into this philosophy—each pose, each breath, a pilgrimage towards self-discovery. The mat becomes a canvas where the self is not just found but continuously revealed, fostering a transformative journey that transcends the boundaries of body and mind. Join us in this voyage to uncover the layers of your true self. 🧘‍♂️✨

A yoga instructor guides individuals to pose for themselves, encouraging an internal journey. In yoga, the emphasis is on self-awareness, self-discovery, and the cultivation of an individual's inner strength and authenticity.

Each posture becomes a mirror reflecting your internal landscape, a canvas for self-exploration and empowerment. In yoga, you are both the artist and the masterpiece, shaping your practice to align with your unique journey.

Let the mat be a sanctuary where you pose not for external approval but for the profound connection with your inner self, fostering a sense of autonomy and self-discovery on this transformative path. 🧘‍♀️✨

02/09/2024

The essence of yoga unfolds as a transformative practice that extends beyond the physical postures. It encapsulates a profound philosophy guiding individuals to discern between what is within their power to change and what is not.

Through yoga, we learn to address and remedy aspects of our lives that are not meant to be endured needlessly, fostering a proactive approach to self-care and well-being. Simultaneously, it teaches us resilience in the face of the inevitable challenges that cannot be altered, urging us to endure with grace and strength.

This wisdom encourages a mindful and balanced response to life's intricacies, inviting practitioners to cultivate both agency in their healing journey and acceptance in the presence of the unchangeable.

Join the yoga revolution at Jai Yoga, and let's cure, endure, and thrive together! 🧘‍♀️🚀

Breathing is a core tenet of Yoga. It is the conduit to the present moment, a gateway to the unity of breath, mind, body, and soul. In every stretch and balance, your breath is not just a rhythm but a guide. Deepening into a stretch or flowing into a new asana, your breath becomes the anchor to the now. It's the thread weaving through the fabric of your practice, inviting you to release the weight of the past and embrace the boundless possibilities of the future.

Our love for Tolle's quote echoes in the studio, reminding us that each inhale is an invitation to let go, expelling stress, toxins, and past burdens. As you exhale, you make space for a rejuvenated breath, inviting the energy of the future.

Join us at Jai Yoga to explore the transformative power of mindful breathing in every pose, fostering a deeper connection with your practice. Let your breath be the guide, the healer, and the bridge to a more harmonious and present self. 🧘‍♀️🌿

Virabhadrasana, or Warrior Pose, is a dynamic yoga posture that symbolizes strength and resilience. Named after the mythic warrior Virabhadra, it involves a strong stance with one leg forward, arms extended, and focused gaze.

The name of the pose derives from the Hindu myth, but the pose is not recorded in the hatha yoga tradition until the 20th century.

While practicing the warrior pose, ensure proper alignment of the front knee directly over the ankle, engage the core for stability, and maintain a lengthened spine. Mindful breathing and a grounded foundation are key for a safe and effective Warrior Pose experience.

Discover the profound wisdom of Vriksasana, the sacred Tree Pose, a profound and simple yoga posture that weaves the threads of ancient mythology into the practice. Rooted in Tadasana, Vriksasana is one leg raised, and arms stretched skyward—a living sculpture embodying strength and resilience.

In the mythic narrative, Queen Sita sought sanctuary amidst Ashoka trees, revered for their healing essence in Vedic tradition and stood still as Ravana's lackeys searched for her. The trees spoke to Sita, advising her to maintain focus and stand firm like a steady tree. This asana, much like Queen Sita, transcends the physical, offering a connection to inner strength to face the challenges of modern life. Each practitioner's unique expression mirrors the diverse unity of a flourishing forest.

Join us in exploring the wisdom of Tree Pose, a reminder that unity arises from embracing our uniqueness. Lean against metaphorical trees, feel the pulse of resilience, and find strength in stillness. 🌳💚
