Alberta Concussion Awareness Day is quickly approaching – September 27, 2023, which falls within National Concussion Awareness Week (September 24, 2023, to October 30, 2023). Softball Alberta wants to profile the importance of concussion awareness.

To better prepare you with the knowledge needed, we encourage everyone involved in softball to join in on creating greater awareness about the tools available for prevention, detection, management, and support for those who have sustained a concussion.

In the 2012 Consensus statement on concussion in sport the guidelines did
recommend complete rest after a concussion. But research in the last few years has
shown that concussion recovery should include a short period of rest of 1 to 2 days,
followed by a gradual return to activity, listening to your body and reducing the
amount of activity if your symptoms get worse.
