STRENGTH: 5x2 Bench Press (85%).
New athletes will build to a moderate-heavy double with good form. 💪🏼

WORKOUT: For Time (Teams or 2):
——Accumulate 200/160 Calorie Row——
* One partner rows while the other performs 10 Thrusters (95/65). At the top of every minute, partners rotate. Newer athletes should use lighter weights or switch to air squats if needed. 🔥

ABOUT: Bring a Friend Day is a great way to introduce your friends and family to our amazing community. Share with those who you think would benefit from all things Magine - including an improved mindset, a supportive community, and positive vibes! Whether you’ve been with us from the start or you’re a new athlete yourself - try to find a friend to bring! 👯‍♀️

The class will be free but required to make a reservation and sign our waiver beforehand to keep things moving! ⏱️

If you’re feeling intimidated walking through our doors, know that our coaches are here to help all of the athletes, especially newer ones, move better and you’ll be greeted with a smile! 😃

MONTHLY CHALLENGE: Every weekday in February, accumulate 2 minutes in a hold position. 🔥

Challenge Dates: Weekdays, February 1st - February 29th 📆

Scoring: The scoring is a checkmark if you completed your 2 minutes that day. You cannot make up for past days by doing extra, so get it in each weekday! ✅

Movements that Count: It’s your choice! You can do planks, handstands, hollow/tuck holds, or any combination. The 2 minutes doesn’t need to be done all at once. Just accumulate at least two minutes throughout each weekday. 🤸🏼‍♀️

Prize: Will be Magine Merch similar to January’s.

HOW TO WIN:
To be eligible for the prize, athlete must successfully complete the entire challenge without any missed days. At the end of the month, I will pull a name at random from the eligible list. 🎁

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Josianne, but my friends call me Josi! I am both a wife, and proud mother of four! 👋🏻

I’ve been part of the Magine community since September 2022 and have loved every minute so far! I’ve always had a passion for fitness and started in my home gym, but it eventually got to a point where I felt I was no longer being challenged... I eventually found functional fitness at Magine and decided to give it a try - and let’s just say I LOVED it! Since joining, I have been pushed to be a stronger version of myself both physically and mentally. 💪🏼

Welcome to the Magine Team, Tyler Martin! 🥳

“From hockey, soccer, judo and snowboarding. I’ve always loved challenging sports. In 2012 I stumbled across a functional fitness gym and I never looked back! I loved the challenge, the diversity in movement, the community cheering each other on and the accountability on one’s self to be as good as the effort you put in. 💪🏼

In early 2013, I acquired my CFL1 and continued to achieve multiple certificates ever since. I want members to have full confidence walking into Magine knowing their coaches are well-educated, passionate and driven towards the members overall health. 🔥

My goal as your Coach is to make training the best hour of your day. Share my passion and knowledge for functional fitness. Keep training safe and challenging. And wanting to come back for more! 💯

The slogan, “Hard Work Pays Off” taken on by Mat Fraser, 5-time ‘Fittest Man on Earth’, is what drove him to being the best in our sport for half a decade - but how do we as local athletes apply it? 🤔

First, we must understand that ‘hard work’ is not simply beating ourselves into the ground workout after workout! It refers to individual growth - learning individual capacities for movements and skills, understanding the mental grind of the training program, and balancing the intensity of it all. 🎯

A reminder that the gym is arguably the most equitable playground there is - it doesn’t matter what your background is, or who your parents are, or what your religious or politic beliefs are, or even how much money you have in your bank account. Yet it rewards those who stay consistent and purposefully strive for improvement over time (we want you to be functional for as long as you can).

“Hard Work Pays Off” is adopting a mindset that drives development and longevity as an athlete and understands that everything is connected. 💯

“Happy, but hungry!” is a motto by 10x Games athlete Noah Ohlsen that resonates with our current state of mind! We are both proud and grateful for the things we have accomplished - looking back only for a brief second to see exactly how far we’ve come - we have our eyes set on what is coming next! 😤

We’ve all been there - looking for faster results and thinking that if we simply spend more hours in the gym we’ll get there quicker! 😔

⚡️Newsflash: it doesn’t work that way! And the reality is - you shouldn’t have to! ⚡️

The truth is, we don’t want you to have to spend endless hours in the gym to achieve your goals, but rather we want you to find a more efficient path and to enjoy the other 23 hours of your day as well! 😱

The efficiency of what we do, and how we do it, doesn’t limit itself to the walls of our gym, and purposefully sets us up for success in all aspects of our lives. 🎯

Our best athletes understand that intensity breeds results. Whether referring to conditioning, gymnastics, weightlifting, or even nutrition, finding the sweet spot for intensity is a game we as athletes and coaches must play - not enough intensity and we won’t see any changes, while too much will often lead to injury. 💯

We strive to better understand our threshold capacities in each discipline and aim to be more comfortable pushing slightly past them! 🔥

Today’s society often presents many unrealistic and unhealthy norms and can be frightening if you let them. In these times of increasing chronic disease, taking charge of your fitness can be a hedge against many kinds of illnesses.

A good approach is to bee reactive when you have to be and proactive when you can! Adapt and overcome! 🔥

As athletes, movement virtuosity is often admired for its time and dedication to obtain. 🔥

Complex movements, such as sn**ches and cleans, often take years to scratch the surface of virtuosity - and even then do only a few obtain. 🤔

Simpler movements however, like the air squat, push-up, and pull-up, often take less time to master and are arguably more important living a healthier lifestyle! Being able to move your body is essential (especially in later years) for obtaining and maintaining quality of life! 🎯

Understanding your capacity, and becoming more self aware, is one of the keys to success in our gym! 🎯

Whether it is your capacity for learning as an athlete, your capacity for growth as a coach, or your capacity to lead as an owner, knowledge of how we develop can help set reasonable goals, limit the amount of frustration, and/or even prevent burnout! 💯

Additionally, your capacity isn’t limited to (pun not intended) the four walls of the gym. Depending how diverse your situation is, you may need to balance your capacity as a parent, your capacity spouse/partner, as a working professional, as a community member, as a sibling or child, even your capacity as a pet owner! 🤔

Knowing that we all have a definitive bandwidth to give, we can be kind to one another, and ourselves, knowing that we all have different capacities. 🔥

Remembering Robert “Bob” Tucker of Pineville, NB who peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023 at the age of 64.

Bob was an integral part in creating Magine what it is today, helping construct the gym literally from the ground up through the summer of 2021. Bob was a plumber first, a carpenter second (even if he didn’t want to admit it), and even more importantly a jack of all trades - if you wanted something done, Bob was your man.

From the rig that you swing on, to the floors you walk on, to toilets you occasionally visit after a difficult WOD (🤢), we can thank Bob for his work on the Magine project and bringing this dream to life.

Rest easy, Bob. 🤍

Athletes are taking on the Hero WOD “WILMOT” today.

WILMOT was named after Canadian Forces Private Colin Wilmot, 24, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, assigned to the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI) Battle Group, based out of Edmonton, Alberta, died on July 5th, 2008 from wounds suffered when an explosive device detonated near him in the Panjwali District of Afghanistan.

Ever wonder how we have athletes 16 & 60 years old working out together, doing the same workouts?! 🤔

The difficulty of workouts our athletes put themselves through are always relative to what they can do! What may feel easy for someone may be hard for someone else! 🥵

Individual strengths and weaknesses are considered, and athletes learn to ‘scale’ movements to find the desired stimulus of the day! Over time this becomes a skill our everyone develops! 🫠

Our athletes learn how to properly scale through trial and error, keep record of their progress, and increase difficulty as their skills increase! 💪🏼

Respecting individual thresholds, continuing to push just outside comfort zones, allows for athlete development and lifelong growth! 🔥

Do the following movements got you down?! 😔

• Lat pull downs, bench flys, leg presses, smith machine bench press, cable rows, leg extensions and curls, and ab crunch machines… US TOO! 😴

That’s why we don’t do any of them! 😱

We promote “functional” movements which can often be found in, or translated to, everyday life! 🔥

These movements are often referred to as compound movements, or exercises that require more than one muscle group to perform, and help us create effective full body workouts!💪🏼

Moreso, these movements would exist, if your traditional gym did not. For instance: a Farmer Carry is a great way to carry all your groceries in the house at once! Or a Clean, picking up a big bag of dog food or gardening soil! 🤔

When you’re ready to shift your focus from what your body looks like to more about what your body can achieve - give us a shout as we’re the program for you! 💯

Heavy Snatches yesterday, Heavy Cleans tomorrow! Needless to say, our barbell nerds are excited! 🤓

However, not all of our athletes crave a heavy barbell. Yet everyone puts their best foot forward in an attempt to improve themselves! 👌🏼

Explosive compound movements, such as the clean and sn**ch, will often produce improved results in power, speed, coordination, balance, and accuracy! These skills help us to train harder, run faster, and be more explosive as athletes! 🔥

We’ll often hear the excuse, “I’m too old to be doing ‘that’ stuff!” or “My body can’t handle that sort of thing any more.” 😪

When in reality, the training we do promotes longevity and keeps the body moving for longer! We build our athletes stronger from the inside out! 🤔

Peeling back the layers of our membership, we have 18 athletes in the 40’s, and 6 athletes in their 50’s! 👏🏼

Not to discredit the hard work and effort of our younger demographic, we simply want to highlight the fact that functional fitness isn’t just for the young and super fit! 🙅🏻‍♂️

No - we’re not all old farts (even though some days it feels that way), but we’re not all 22 and recover with a blink of an eye like we could in college either! 👀

Members who best succeed with us are those with a good mindset, ready to take on challenges, who are open to critique and learning new things! 🧠
