Well Halifax, that’s all she wrote.  
 
Last night, as I was thinking about what our last day of business would be like, I thought back on how I felt the night before we opened. I remember being up until 2am programming the cash register, and as I fell asleep that night I thought, “but, I didn’t get a training shift!”  
 
I walked to work the next morning, baked some muffins, brewed the coffee, dialed in the espresso & then at 8am I took a deep breath, unlocked the door and hoped for the best. What followed during the next five years, was beyond my wildest dreams. The community that has grown in & around Lucky Penny never ceases to amaze me. I feel so lucky to have watched your children grow, caffeinated you through your degrees, met your parents, catered your weddings, introduced you to my baby, and to know each & every single one of you.  
 
I am forever grateful to the kindness you have shown us & the support you have given through this wild and crazy ride.  
 
With all my heart, I thank you.

I have been trying to find the words for this post for several days now, and they are not coming easily. Lucky Penny has become a second home for me, and for the team, with you all like a family to us - and this is hard news to deliver. As our fifth year, and our lease, draw to a close, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors on Quinpool Rd.

The last five years - and this past one in particular - have been unlike any other I’ve ever experienced. I have laughed and cried from joy and exhaustion on the daily. I have grown as a person, made lifelong friends, and started my family. Most importantly, I have found myself surrounded and supported by a community which (even during a global pandemic) has shown up for me, this cafe, and our amazing team, time & time again.

While closing our brick & mortar location breaks my heart, there is exciting news to share in the coming days. Head to the link below to sign up for our newsletter so we can keep you in the loop.

We are committed to going out on the highest of notes, in true Lucky Penny style - there will be coffee, there will be kitchen sink cookies and B.O.Bs, and there will be dancing! Our last day of service will be June 27th, but it is business as usual until then, and we hope to see you again & often.
