Working from Home Ergonomics: Tips from Your Physiotherapist
Working from home has become increasingly common, but it often leads to poor ergonomic practices that can cause discomfort or injury. Here are some essential tips from your physiotherapist to help you maintain good posture and prevent strain while working from home.
1. Proper Desk Setup
A proper desk setup is crucial for preventing strain and discomfort. Ensure your desk height allows your elbows to be at a 90-degree angle.
2. Monitor Height
Keep your monitor at eye level! This prevents neck strain and promotes good posture. Use a monitor stand or stack books to achieve the correct height.
3. Chair Support
Your chair should support your lower back. Use a chair with lumbar support or add a cushion to maintain the natural curve of your spine.
4. Keyboard and Mouse Placement
Keep your keyboard and mouse close to avoid reaching and straining your shoulders. Your wrists should be straight and in line with your forearms.
5. Foot Position
Keep your feet flat on the floor or on a footrest. This helps maintain proper posture and reduces lower back strain.
6. Take Regular Breaks
Take regular breaks to stretch and move around. Set a timer to remind yourself to stand up and walk every hour.
