✨ How to give from your abundance✨
We live in a world of ABUNDANCE.
Most of our house are filled with stuff we really, realllly like but don't need. Plus now with online ordering sometimes the stuff we get isn't exactly what we had pictured. Why not make it a gift? The Mrs.Clause Club only asks for donations you already have in your possession. Those Amazon purchases that weren't what you wanted, that Boxycharm and Ipsy makeup that is piling up unused, the new clothes that don't fit right but it's too late to return, the shoes your husband won't wear but you WISH he would, or the INSANE amount of gift cards you've accumulated. These could all be blessings and bring real happiness to a teen who otherwise might not be getting alot this year.
Something's don't come with tags which is fine, but we ask you donate things that are new or practically new.
❓Why Teens❓
Teens have been hit hard by the pandemic and rapid changes to the world. Depression and Su***de rates have skyrocketed in teens from all walks of life. But will Inflation, job loss, and uncertainty at home teens who were already in lower income houses pre-pandemic have been hit the hardest. The Mrs.Clause Club can't fix that BUT we can be the people who care, the people who show support, and the people who DONT give up on the young people of our community.
THE GIRLS
Girls and boys have many of the same issues growing up - we all go through trying to gain confidence and self worth. Many teen girls turn to drugs, but statistically aren't as at risk for homelessness. Why is that? Three words
👉 Toxic. First. Relationships 👈
Many girls with low self esteem, also develop low standards. We all know (or have been) someone who in highschool began dating someone who was so so toxic for them. This usually ends badly, with various differnt outcomes, but unfortunately for many of these teen girls, it is just the beginning of a chain of bad relationships with no confidences, and no hope. I was that girl coming out of highschool and now as a happy mom THAT is why I started doing this at Christmas.
Showing girls they have self worth and a future beyond this moment is so important. The greatest thing you can teach a teen is to not value love from OTHERS over loving themselves.
BOYS BOYS BOYS
Boys are often seen as self sufficient and able to be left alone at a younger age. The number fluxuate's but 70% of homeless people are men and unfortunately the majority of them are hard drug users. Their teen years are so so vital in showing them their self worth, qualities, and finding what they excel at.Just like teen girls, boys can get sucked into toxic relationships that ruin their confidence and self worth. Statistically they are more likely to leave those relationship but sometimes the scares never heal. It is so incredibly easy for young men to get lost in the tides of life. Last year I had MANY requests for gifts for young men but was only able to meet one of those requests - this year I want to gift as many boys as we do girls!
My son and I started doing Mrs.Clause gifts two years ago and we are looking to make this year one of our best ones.
In the holiday seasons many teens from lower income families forfeit their christmas - sometimes just so younger siblings can feel the magic. Although they've outgrown their love for Santa teens are sometimes the most vulnerable family members and that's where we all can step in. Facing dysfunctional relationships with parents, homelessness, introduction to drugs, over sexualization, and wealth shaming at school, you're self esteem and confidence is severely tested during these years - as I know many adults know from experience!
As simple as a gift can be, it can open up so many doors. Doors of confidence, self assurance, and trust.
