5 Ways to Experience Emotion Constructively
• When feelings are uncomfortable, most commonly we look for ways to avoid what we are feeling. Give yourself permission to experience the emotion fully with no interruptions or distractions. Sit down once or twice a week to ask yourself: How am I feeling at this moment? It may take some time for the feeling to surface, but face the emotion.
• Place a name to the emotion. Sometimes we are unaware of what we are feeling because we haven’t identified the emotion. Keep a list of different types of emotions close by so you are able to acknowledge the feeling. Make connections with how you are also feeling in your body.
• Connect your feelings with your thoughts. Sometimes we are disconnected from our feelings and thoughts. When you feel intense emotion, it is always best to join associations between your feelings and thoughts to form greater insights. Ask yourself, is what you’re feeling consistent with what you are thinking? If not, where is the disconnect? Locate it and try to find patterns of your thought process and your current emotional state.
• Connect your feelings with other situations. Sometimes we prevent ourselves from realizing that our feelings could be linked to similar situations where we experienced the same emotion. Ask yourself where have I felt this feeling before? Doing this might help you tackle whether your current emotional state is reflective of the current situation, or of another time in your past.
• Now that you have experienced your emotional state by looking inwardly, focus attention outwardly on how to cope with emotions constructively so that coping becomes a skill, a way of living. Writing, journaling, creating quotes or self-affirmations, finding music that inspires you, reading and learning from people you trust are all ways to make sense of your feelings.

Creative Expressions of Yourself
When life hurdles and challenges hit us hard, deep into our hearts we need to find an outlet to allow for the process of healing and recovery. These tools are used as a way to express yourself- to be able to lose yourself in the moment and concentrate on strength, empowerment, and confidence to embark on a new window of enlightenment. These are some to help.
Poetry – Find poems related to your own unique experience to find meaning, lift your spirit, and bring inspiration to your soul. Read the words and the powerful message. Try to find your own message. Reflect on your own life experiences and think about how you could relate. Does the poem offer insight? Does the poem challenge your beliefs or values? Does the poem provide you with courage to fight negative emotions causing you distress? Does the poem offer a different perspective about the event, experience, or situation?
Scrapbooking – Collect old pictures or take new pictures of positive people in your life to elicit feelings of happiness and hope. For example, there may be a role model or mentor in your life that helped you and provided guidance/direction through difficult times. The pictures could help with remembering their wise words of encouragement. Collect pictures of beautiful scenery, images of artwork, add your favourite colours and be creative with your imagination to make the book apart of you. In other words, let the book be an extension of yourself.
Journaling – This is a great way to give meaning and understanding to thoughts or feelings that you might have had toward a situation, event, or person. Journaling is a way to unload your mind with extra baggage that you have carried. In many ways, our thoughts or feelings do not make sense to us in our mind, but when we write it out on paper it is easier to process.
Everybody goes through difficult and hard times. Sometimes we need a place where we can go to create greater understanding even if it is for a little while. Try these tools to find your own way of healing.
To understand your unique experiences, learn to make connections with your body, mind, emotions, and actions. Understand how all of these elements are influenced by situational/environmental factors.
Do not let negative self-talk become the truth to the way you conduct your interactions with others. Learn to evaluate your faulty thinking and decide whether there is any credibility to these thoughts. In many cases, the answer is no, but decide for yourself. Empower yourself to make the change you want to see in you!

'Diffusion of responsibility' means in many social situations when there are bystanders, the next person will look to the other person assuming they will ask/call for help. This article motivates students to become 'upstanders' when confronted with a bully to break the pattern of not speaking up.

Defeating the Culture of Bullying How can we help children become "upstanders" to bullying?
Transitioning from childhood to adolescence to adulthood can bring about certain emotions that are difficult to manage as your child is desperately trying to form their identity independent of parental values and beliefs. This is a challenging milestone for your child as they address the unique developmental changes that are present. Encourage yourself to be patient with supporting your child through this adjustment, as it may come with resistance at first.

You may feel this way, however it is not the truth to your reality. You can learn the skills/tools to shift your thinking and turn your life around.
You can choose the positive thought that gives you the power to direct your mood. The key is differentiating between the thought that is 'doing absolutely nothing for you' and the thought that will ignite positivity within you.
Encourage yourself. Motivate yourself. Inspire yourself. Yes! You can do that for yourself. It is possible.
You have a second chance. It is called tomorrow. Truly believe in this and you will move forward. It is up to you. Your choice, your happiness.
Being present and grounded in the moment means accepting yourself and life's circumstances as it is.
As you enter new transitions in your life, know that you can reshape yourself to fit the new you as you move along through different roles in your unique journey.
Be mindful of how you are a teacher and a student, and how these roles are interchangeable. You are constantly going through life learning and teaching.
Different genres of music can help with soothing and has a positive influence on your psychological health and wellbeing. Remember your feelings are never right or wrong; they are happening within you and need to be felt. It is human to feel and you are allowed to embrace these emotions for what they are.
Jars are for cookies, not for your feelings....
Imagine a jar filled with cookies. Each cookie represents an emotion that has been confined and stuck in the jar; tightly shut so no one can eat that cookie. Locking your emotions away may be a useful coping strategy at the time, but the jar can only fill so much before it overflows. Very often, an overflow of emotions is the result of unresolved conflicts/situations and can only be tightly shut in a jar for so long. Eventually you will have to deal with the cookies.
This is for every female who looks in the mirror and believes you aren't pretty or has tried changing yourself to fit in to feel belonged. Look at you, the real you, and have faith that you are a valuable and special person because you truly are.

GLEE - I Feel Pretty/Unpretty (Full Performance) (Official Music Video) HD GLEE - Full Performance of I Feel Pretty/Unpretty. Sung by: Quinn Fabray/Dianna Agron and Rachel Berry/Lea Michele. Episode: 2x18 "Born This Way".
Music, a song, or a video offers you the ability to connect with others and to convey personal meaning through sound, movement, the beat, and the rhythm. The lyrics allow you to find the words and express your inner feelings, which you might not have had the ability to do so if these songs did not exist. This means that others relate, others can identify, and share similar experiences. This provides you with strength, understanding, and compassion to be able to overcome your unique challenges, as everyone comes from all different walks of life. Sometimes we need this attachment towards meaningful words to explain the things we can't.
You may be wanting to desperately break out of your cocoon and become free and awakened like a butterfly. This song plays tribute to acknowledging how trapped and isolated you must feel at times. With paying close attention to the movement and actions of the dancers in the video, how is this inspiring change within yourself to feel alive and indulge in your own personal calling? As you watch the video, listen to the words and encourage yourself to make connections with your emotions to search for meaning. Feel the dots of your own experiences connecting.

This to me speaks a million words because when we are going through difficult times, the idea to be mindful about is your difficulties and your emotions associated with the event are only temporary. Eventually your situation gets better when you start to perceive it as better, when you start to believe things will be better, when you have inner strength in yourself to pull through, when your uncertainties seem clearer, and you start to open yourself up to learning from your life experiences.
Thank you to every single woman in the world. All of the advocates of love, compassion, and generosity who take care of their families - every mother, every daughter, every wife, every sister, every aunt who promotes and spreads positivity to people's hearts. You are our inspiration to strive to be a better person every single day! You make life and all of its goodness worthwhile. You provide us with the strength. You give us hope. You give us the ability to keep moving forward during our roughest and toughest times. You sincerely make the world a better place to live because we are reminded that kind hearted people exist - that love truly exists.
Aren't we all?? This is such a bold statement. To really put yourself out there and give another person entrance into your greatest fears with the hope of feeling accepted.
Taking a minute to really grasp the emotions of a teenage girl - wondering how it must feel to have everyone critique and judge you at such a pivotal time of development. This image really does speak volumes, just looking at the way she has her face covered. She's had enough, she doesn't want to be seen anymore.
