“Money, War and More” is the theme of the Second Annual Numismatics Symposium presented by Nickle Galleries and the Calgary Numismatic Society (CNS).
“The Money, War and More symposium examines the interplay between money, power and the capacity to wage war, starting in the ancient era and progressing through to the present,” explains Marina Fischer, curator of numismatics at Nickle Galleries at the University of Calgary.
The April 27-28 symposium offers ten numismatic presentations by several experts from across Canada. It also includes two workshops that will assist collectors in “Making Good Purchases” and better understanding “Tools for the Coin Collector.”

Part of the Museum’s mandate is to acquire current Canadian coins and notes. In 2022, one interesting addition in this area was a set of bank notes from the Bank of Canada’s Frontiers series with the signatures of then-Acting Senior Deputy Governor Timothy Lane and Governor Tiff Macklem.
