STEM CELLS for LIFE! SAVE the DATE for SWAB IN events!

Your promotion of these events will make a difference and might help find a life-saving blood stem cell donor/recipient match!

During March 2023, we held Swab In events at Canadore College and Nipissing University. They were highly successful. The Rotary Club of Nipissing in partnership with Canadian Blood Services and an expanded group of sponsors featuring Nipissing University Students’ Union, Canadore Students’ Council, and the Nipissing Nursing Society will lead this September’s events. Once again, we welcome the support of Canadore College and Nipissing University.

Our goal is to register 300 potential donors. While our most accessible group of registrants will come from the Nipissing and Canadore, we hope to recruit 17-35 y/o registrants from the North Bay community. All events are open to the public. However, we feel that the 4:30 to 7:00 PM event at the Surtees Student Athletic Centre should provide ease of access for members of the general public. Persons representing all ethnicities along with a strong turnout of male registrants is important. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community CAN join the registry and donate.

We appreciate anything that you can do to help get out the message about these important events on September 25th and 26th.

Any questions? Please send a DM and we will get back to you.

Last Thursday members and friends gathered at the Rotary Gazebo on North Bay's beautiful Lake Nipissing waterfront for lunch. Together we celebrated the lives and community service of members who passed away while members of our club. As well, we celebrated some current service work. As always, the fellowship was great.

The first guiding principle of Rotary International is "the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service." This was highly evident at our lunch.

Send us a message to learn more.

At last Thursday's meeting, we enjoyed "Friend of Rotary" Sue Lister and Rotarian Steve Dreany's presentation about Artificial Intelligence. We are fortunate to have expertise and experience in this burgeoning area in our midst. Thank you!

As well Rotarians Hariett Madigan and Sarah McGowan were present at the meeting. In our community, these accomplished women wear many hats. We would like to "tip our hat" to Hariett and Sarah for their leadership in the Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay "movement." Recently, the a team representing the national organization Communities in Bloom https://www.communitiesinbloom.ca/ , was in town to judge our efforts to make our town a better more appealing place.

On Thursday,Hariett provided our club with the official document presented to the visitors. We are proud of the efforts of Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay with special mention of Hariett and Sarah. We are pleased to participate as a sponsor with our Rotary Service Squad actively engaged in cleaning up litter in our community. (Note: this impressive document about our community should be posted publicly soon.)

The clothing boutique racks at 140 Elmwood Hub are sparse and in need of youth clothing from 2T- 14/16.

Please share with friends, family and colleagues to encourage them to drop off to our boutique!

The boutique not only serves families involved with Children’s Aid Society in the North Bay Nipissing area but also EarlyON and Trinity Infant Food Shelf. It is a FREE resource to anyone in need and is run off the generosity of our volunteers.

Last Thursday members and friends of Rotary Nipissing had the opportunity to hear team members and mentors from FIRST Team 1305 speak. This amazing group of gracious professionals have been exploring science, technology, engineering and math by building and participating in robotics events locally, provincially, nationally and, on occasion, internationally. Participation has grown to the point that younger children have joined to learn more about robotics through First Lego League.

It was highly evident from their presentation and the evidence they shared that this experience is life changing and promotes growth in learning and personally.

Our club is pleased to have been a sponsor of this group over many of their 20 plus years.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!
