We are excited to announce our final speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from the UK, Olive Craig.

Olive Craig, senior legal officer at Rights of Women - Olive is a solicitor and has practiced criminal law and family law. She previously worked in legal aid practice representing a wide range of vulnerable clients including victims of domestic abuse. She leads on Rights of Women’s project exploring the experiences of survivors accused of so-called parental alienation in the Family Court.

We are excited to announce another speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from Iceland, Eija Katarina Jansdotter.

Protective mother and survivor of domestic as well as systemic abuse.
Founding member of the Icelandic activist group Líf án ofbeldis (life without violence), which focuses on the protection of children in domestic violence and custody cases - challenging the influence that the notion of "parental alienation" has had on the Icelandic legal systems, as well as the society as a whole.

We are excited to announce another speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from New Zealand, Carrie Leonetti.

Carrie Leonetti is an Associate Professor at the University of Auckland. She is an internationally recognised expert on the intersection of science and the law. She specialises in expert scientific testimony, forensic psychiatry and psychology, the use of forensic science in criminal proceedings, research ethics and methodology, and the effect of human factors (implicit associations and cognitive biases) on justice-system decision making. She lectures Evidence, Psychiatry and the Law, and Miscarriages of Justice.

Associate Professor Leonetti has published extensively on the role of faulty forensic-science and psychological-syndrome evidence in wrongful convictions, DNA databanking, lie detection, eyewitness identification, systemic responses to gender-based violence and child abuse, psychological responses to trauma and the regulation of expert evidence in family courts. Much of her research focuses on child safety and the use of the theory of “parental alienation” in child custody proceedings.

We are excited to announce another speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from France, Pierre-Guillaume Prigent, Ph.D.

Pierre-Guillaume Prigent has a Ph.D. in Sociology and teaches at the
University of Western Brittany (UBO) in France and in the UBO-Rennes 2 Inter-University Diploma in Gender Studies. He co-founded the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Gender Violence at the UBO.

His research focuses on gender-based violence, in particular
post-separation domestic violence and coercive control. In his doctoral thesis, "Strategies of abusive fathers in the context of parental separation : coercive control, institutional complicity and women's resistance", defended in 2021, he analyses the strategies used by violent men and the institutional responses based on interviews with twenty separated mothers who are victims of violence.

Since 2017, with Gwénola Sueur, Ph.D. student in Sociology, he has been conducting a multi-method research (interviews, textual analysis of the press, analysis of case law) on the social uses of ‘parental alienation’ in France. Gwénola and him are taking part in the international project ‘Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence’ under the direction of Professor Simon Lapierre in Ottawa.

We are excited to announce our next speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, as well as the Principal Investigator for the PADV Research Group, Simon Lapierre, Ph.D.

Simon Lapierre, PhD, is a Full Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa, and a founding member of the Feminist Anti-Violence (FemAnVi) Research Collective. Dr Lapierre’s work has focused on women’s and children’s experiences and perspectives on domestic violence. His work has also investigated practices in domestic violence shelters, child protection services, family courts and the criminal justice system. His recent work has provided a critical perspective on ‘parental alienation’ discourses and its implications for women and children who have experienced violence.

We are excited to announce our next speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from the United States, Danielle Pollack.

Danielle Pollack is a policy expert at the National Family Violence Law Center at GW Law in Washington D.C., where she provides technical assistance to state and federal lawmakers on policies related to the intersection of domestic abuse and child abuse in the family court context. She initiated and advanced the federal Keeping Children Safe From Family Violence Act, also known as “Kayden’s Law,” which passed Congress and was signed into law by President Biden as part of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 2022. Pollack is co-founder of National Safe Parents Organization (NSPO), and is co-director of The Court Said USA, the U.S. branch of The Court Said international. Her short documentary film, Voices for Reform has been used to raise awareness at the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), in courts, and at universities and research centers internationally.

We are excited to announce another speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from the United Kingdom, Dr. Adrienne Barnett.

Dr Adrienne Barnett is a Reader in Law at Brunel University London and Divisional Lead, Private and Commercial Law. She practised as a Family Law barrister in London for over 25 years. Her specialist area of research for the past 26 years has been domestic abuse and family court proceedings and, more recently, parental alienation. She has published widely on these issues and has presented papers at numerous academic and professional conferences in the UK and abroad. Adrienne was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice to undertake a literature review to support their inquiry into domestic abuse and family court proceedings, published in June 2020. She is a member of the Advisory Group of Rights of Women, a founder member of the SHERA Research Group, a co-director of Right to Equality’s campaign to end the presumption of contact, a trustee of Project Lighthouse and the UK member of the International Strategy Group of Hague Mothers. She is a UK collaborator and co-ordinating committee member of the ‘Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence’ Canadian-led research project and is currently undertaking a qualitative study of domestic abuse and ‘parental alienation’ in family court proceedings in England and Wales.

We are excited to announce our Opening Speaker for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, Ms. Reem Alsalem, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls.

Ms. Reem Alsalem was appointed United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences in July 2021 by the UN Human Rights Council for a three-year tenure. She started her tenure on 1 August 2021.

Reem Alsalem is an independent consultant on gender issues, the rights of refugees and migrants, transitional justice and humanitarian response. She has consulted extensively for United Nations departments, agencies and programmes such as UN-Women, OHCHR, UNICEF and IOM, as well as for non-governmental organizations, think tanks and academia. Previously, she worked as an international civil servant, serving with the UNHCR in thirteen countries. During her service, she has planned, implemented, and monitored programs that served to protect persons that were survivors of gender-based violence, particularly women and girls.She has also been a visiting professional with the Prosecutor’s Office of the ICC from January to March 2009 and a visiting researcher with the Feinstein International Center of Tufts University in December 2008. Visiting Professional, Investigation Unit of the Prosecutor Office, International Criminal Court, the Hague, the Netherlands, January 2009-March 2009.

Reem has a Master’s in International Relations from the American University in Cairo, Egypt (2001) and a Masters in Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (2003).

We are excited to announce one of the speakers for the International Forum on Parental Alienation and Domestic Violence, from Brazil, Ludmila Ribeiro, Ph.D.

Ludmila Ribeiro is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and a researcher in the Center for Crime and Public Safety Studies (CRISP), both at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). She holds a bachelor's degree in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais; a master's and a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from João Pinheiro Foundation; and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Rio de Janeiro Research Institute (IUPERJ). She was a visiting scholar at the University of Florida, University of Groningen and Texas State University. During her career, she has coordinated several research projects on how the criminal justice system operates in Brazil. Nowadays, her research interests are focused on gender violence, first appearance hearings, homicide trials and management of the penitentiary system.
