Dreaming the Future
The dream of creating a community foundation for the Peterborough area began in 2006, when a group of affordable housing advocates met in search of a way to work together to build a more fair and sustainable future for the community.
From an initial donation of $40 000, and with the support of local philanthropists and countless committed individuals, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough made its first grant in 2011. Since that time, the Foundation has since invested more than $3 million in projects that build community vitality, and has built a sustainable resource of $11 million in capital. This growing community asset will continue to serve the City and County of Peterborough for generations to come.
The Community Foundation believes that together, we can build a vital community for everyone. With a long-term view of our community and insight into the challenges and opportunities facing Peterborough, the Community Foundation has the knowledge and the staying power needed to address complex issues, from environmental sustainability to housing and homelessness, from support for the arts to care for those in need.
