2 PROGRAMS = 1 WHEELCHAIR

3 years ago I went to Uganda Africa & worked with The Fathers Heart Mobility Ministry, which is an organization that provides & delivers wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Uganda.

When I came home I felt frustrated with the lack of education and access to healthcare. & Wished there was more that could be done.

Then Covid hit, and EVERYTHING changed.

I created Reach Rehab on instagram as a tool to help “reach” others that have limited access to healthcare.

Then something amazing happened! … All of YOU! 💜

The page really started to grow, which provides me with the opportunity to achieve my original goal of giving back 🙏

MY FAV PART is that it’s a double Give Back Opportunity!

👋 Hey! It’s my Bday! 🥳🎉

I realized I haven’t done an intro in a while, so here’s a bit about me!

I’ve been a Physical Therapist for 7 years, & have been heavily involved in strength training for the last 15 years starting back when I played Div 1 volleyball in the states! 💪

I have my Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) which means I did a 4 year undergraduate degree & then an additional 2 years in the Masters of Physical Therapy program.

After graduation I continued my education & completed 3 Advanced Orthopaedic Manual & Manipulative Physiotherapy courses, became certified in Dry Needling, took a Mulligan course, & I’m currently interested in either completing my levels to receive a Diploma in Advanced Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy or may look into Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy!

I believe in giving you the tools to understand & learn how to prevent injuries or rehab your current one. I believe in an active treatment plan, and treat every person as an athlete.

I don’t believe in overcomplicating things in order to make myself look better🤓. I care about getting to know you & love to learn what motivates you. I believe in simplifying the process for you so you can get back to doing what you love in no time!

I’ve experienced numerous injuries from my college volleyball days & a recent work related injury that took nearly 2 years to recover. I’ve learned how to overcome chronic pain & understand how it feels to question if I’ll ever be the same & live a pain free life again. It humbled me & made me realize how powerful it is to treat with a Biopsychosocial approach which means to factor in not only the physical, but also mental & social factors that may contribute to persisting pain.

I’ve always been an active person and love to compete! 💪 I love volleyball & dabbled a bit in boxing. I currently play football & dare I say I’m getting into golf lately😅. However, my main form of fitness is weight lifting… oh & rollerblading haha 😘

Thank you so much for your continuous support in Reach Rehab & being a part of this community! I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to connect online and I’m BEYOND excited for what’s to come this year!

PREVENT SADDLE PAIN 🙌 🚴

We are so fortunate to have Dane Stennes, bike expert and retail operations manager from give us his top tips for preventing saddle pain!

Western Cycle is local here in Regina and Dane helped do a bike fitting for me when I was getting hip and saddle pain. So I figured you would likely all benefit from his tips as well!🙌

What is covered in this video:
1- seat position (tilt)
2- seat width
3- height of the seat/knee position
4-equipment to offload 🍑 pressure
5- proper clothing to protect the🍑

What I loved the most is how precise & customized the fitting was, it really took into account the biomechanics of the body.

These simple tips can make a HUGE difference in preventing hip & saddle pain. The simple changes in positioning and equipment can really help optimize your riding and prevent Injuries!

COMMUNITY 👊

Have you ever stopped to think about WHO you surround yourself with?!

I created Reach Rehab because I want to be able to give back and help inspire others to move and prevent injuries!

What I didn’t expect is the amazing people that have come into my life because of putting myself out there!😍This includes you reading this right now!

Even though most of us have never met in person, I feel like Reach Rehab is a community & family of like minded people that want to get strong and live injury free! 💪

Having that support is so important whether it’s your friendships or a community online that inspires you to “reach” your goals 👊.

I used to think I had to do things on my own and that if I had to ask for help that I was weak-which is TOTALLY FALSE!! In fact it’s quite the opposite!

When you surround yourself with like minded people you can learn so much more than you ever would on your own! Just like I learned from my friend Jodi today!

~PRIORITIES~

“I’m too busy”

Is one of the most common phrases that I hear from patients

Whenever I hear this phrase I like to reflect on this quote:

“If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse “

You may read that quote & feel a little unsettled, at least that’s how I feel when I catch myself making excuses.

But making excuses doesn’t have to be looked at in a bad way. You can use it to self reflect & determine what truly IS most important to you at that time.

It can be hard to do but getting HONEST with where you’re at & what your PRIORITIES are in life can help guide your rehab.

For ex. quite commonly I treat parents that have been so used to giving & giving AND GIVING 😜 to their children that they forget to take care of themselves.

My fav convo is when they realize that taking care of themselves ultimately make ms them happier & in turn gives them more energy to parent.

OR they realize they DO have a lot going on in their life & they aren’t ready to commit as much time to themselves. Having that open convo with your physio allows them to adjust your rehab program accordingly & discuss strategies how to fit rehab into your day!

This applies to my life right now because lately I’ve noticed myself spewing out ALL of the excuses! 😅

I recognized I was doing it & paused to self reflect on what are my current top priorities?

Is it my top priority to be in tip top shape? 🤔 No!

I realized my body needed a break from nearly daily gym sessions & that my mental health cup needed to be filled after all the wedding craziness! & that’s okay! 👍

I hope you self reflect on what is truly a priority in your life & to focus your energy there. There is no sense is guilt tripping yourself when you keep putting it off & not understanding why you’re not getting better.

Its been a while since I introduced myself and I wanted to welcome you & thank you for following Reach Rehab! 🤗

My name is Kristi Block, I’m a physiotherapist from Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦.

I started Reach Rehab at the end of April 2020 because people were unable to get in person physio treatments due to covid.

My trip to Uganda the summer before also motivated me to create the page because it taught me how impactful education can be. That’s why I called the page Reach Rehab, because my goal is to reach people who are unable to receive physio. Whether that is because of Covid, finances, time etc.

What I didn’t expect when I created this page is the amount of support & community I’ve received from you all! 🥰 Your support has motivated me to come out of my shell and create fun content that hopefully brings some smiles & joy to your day! 🤗

You may notice I love to have fun & be silly because I truly believe that keeping rehab SIMPLE & FUN will encourage others to try it and get moving! 🤗 & life is too short not to make things fun!

A little on my background for those that just joined the page. I grew up on a farm until age 5, then moved to a small town in Saskatchewan Canada. I grew up with a family that loved to be outdoors and encouraged us to move! I fell in love with volleyball and played Div 1 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock!

I returned to Canada and became a personal trainer until I was accepted into the Masters of Physical Therapy program at the university of Saskatchewan.

After graduating I missed being in a competitive sport and got into bodybuilding for a short time💪 👊. I love to try new things and push myself to achieve new goals.

I’m currently working at stapleford health & rehab Center in Regina SK. I am extremely passionate about getting others to take charge of their own health and prevent injuries!
