🌟 Understanding Mental Health: Know the Signs, Seek Support 🌟
Mental health is complex, and understanding the differences between various conditions can empower us to recognize signs and seek support when needed.
Here’s a breakdown:
1️⃣ Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety disorders can manifest as excessive worry, fear, or panic attacks. Symptoms may include racing thoughts, restlessness, and physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat or sweating.
2️⃣ Depression: Depression often involves persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or lack of interest in activities. Other symptoms may include changes in appetite or sleep patterns, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.
3️⃣ Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar disorder involves alternating periods of mania (elevated mood, excessive energy) and depression. Individuals may experience extreme mood swings, impulsivity, and changes in sleep and activity levels.
4️⃣ Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and impaired social functioning.
5️⃣ Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance of triggers. It’s essential to recognize when symptoms are impacting daily life and functioning.
If you or a loved one are experiencing persistent or severe symptoms, it’s important to seek professional help and support. Mental health professionals, such as therapists, counselors, or psychiatrists, can provide assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment options.
Remember, you are not alone, and there is help available. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support, and together, we can navigate the journey toward healing and recovery. 💙

🧠 April: Breaking the Stigma of Mental Health 🧠
At Stapleford Health and Rehab, we’re on a mission to break the stigma surrounding mental health. Too often, individuals hesitate to seek help for fear of judgment or misunderstanding. But here’s the truth: mental health is just as important as physical health, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.Injuries and health challenges can impact not only our bodies but also our minds. Yet, the stigma surrounding mental health can prevent people from getting the support they need during these tough times.
This April, we’re bringing awareness to mental health and encouraging open conversations.
Here’s why it matters:
1️⃣ End the Silence: By speaking openly about mental health, we can break down barriers and create a supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable seeking help.
2️⃣ Empowerment Through Education: Knowledge is power. By educating ourselves and others about mental health, we can empower individuals to recognize when they need support and where to find it.
3️⃣ Compassionate Care: We’re committed to providing compassionate care for both your physical and mental well-being. Our team is here to support you without judgment, offering guidance, resources, and a listening ear.
Let’s work together to break the stigma of mental health. Together, we can create a world where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness. 💪

Today, let's dive into a fascinating topic from a physiotherapist and functional rehab standpoint: ankle fusions! 🦶💪
Ankle fusions are surgical procedures that aim to provide long-term stability and pain relief for individuals dealing with severe ankle arthritis or chronic instability. While it may sound intimidating, let's focus on the positive aspects and explore the long-term impact and ways to be proactive in your recovery journey! 🏋️♀️🔝
But who would be a candidate for an ankle fusion? 🤔
Ankle fusions are typically recommended for individuals who have exhausted conservative treatment options, such as medication, physical therapy, or bracing, without experiencing significant improvement in their ankle function or pain levels. Candidates for ankle fusions may include:
1️⃣ Individuals with severe ankle arthritis: If you're experiencing debilitating pain, stiffness, and limited mobility due to arthritis in your ankle joint, an ankle fusion may be a viable option to alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life.
2️⃣ Those with chronic ankle instability: If you've suffered multiple ankle sprains or have ligament damage that has led to chronic instability, an ankle fusion can provide the stability needed to prevent further injuries and allow you to engage in activities with confidence.
3️⃣ Individuals with failed previous ankle surgeries: In some cases, previous ankle surgeries may not have provided the desired outcome or may have resulted in complications. An ankle fusion can be considered as a salvage procedure to address persistent pain and instability.
It's important to note that the decision to undergo an ankle fusion should be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. They will evaluate your specific condition, medical history, and lifestyle factors to determine if an ankle fusion is the right choice for you. 🩺💡

We are excited to announce our latest partnership with Notre Dame athletics department!
The athletes of the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame will now have the opportunity to receive physiotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture (and soon to be massage therapy) treatments without the worry of travelling into Regina. This means that with any sort of arising injury, the teams at Notre Dame are taken care of and have their injury management team guiding the athletes back to play.
Stay tuned to learn more about the work we are doing with these athletes in the upcoming year.
Is Occupational Therapy missing from your treatment?
At Stapleford we believe in a team approach to treatment and that a multidisciplinary group may show a greater improvement to your rehabilitation.
You may have heard of massage therapy or physiotherapy, but occupational therapy could be a discipline you are missing out on. Several people have coverage for occupational therapy but are unsure of how to use these benefits.
Rather than looking at an injury with fine tooth comb, an occupational therapist will look at the bigger picture to see on what areas of your life that may need improving. This could include your desk set up at work, your sleeping habits, and how to improve completing large tasks.
Occupational therapy combined with other disciplines with a client-centred approach may encourage positive outcomes for those going through rehabilitation for an injury or illness.

Cancer and Exercise
Being diagnosed with any form of cancer can be overwhelming, and thinking about exercise can add more stress to your treatment and recovery.
What if we told you that exercise could improve your overall health and quality of life after being diagnosed with cancer?
Quality exercise programming has been research proven to give you several benefits to combat some of the symptoms that may decrease your quality of life. When starting an exercise program after being diagnosed with cancer or going through treatment is highly recommended and to have the guidance of qualified exercise physiologist who has training as they will ensure safety and follow specific protocol related to your health and wellbeing. It is also important for you to have medical clearance from your doctor prior to beginning exercise as you may have limitations due to the type or severity of the cancer.
Did you know that Stapleford offers Cancer exercise rehabilitation classes, as well as a specific Breast Cancer group fitness class?

Snap, Crack, Pop! 💥
Arthritis is the swelling or inflammation of a joint and can either be caused by the wear and tear of the cartilage within the joint or by the body attacking the lining of the joint capsule.
In both versions of arthritis, it is common for people to feel pain, stiffness, swelling, redness, and a decreased range of motion of the joint. Something else clients may experience is clicking, popping or snapping.
Our bodies will make noise with movement, this is normal as long as it does not cause you pain. If this is the case, you should talk to your health care provider to understand the root of your pain.
