We would like to thank Ohmni Design for sponsoring the team this season! They donated many items including a welder, fixture table, band saw, tube bender and notcher, various small tools, a motorcycle, and so much more. This was a great help to our team as we have been able to improve and speed up our fabrication processes with these new tools. We also plan on using the engine from the donated bike to power S1 (the first car built by HFR) so we can continue to use it for team events.

Well, competition did not end the way we had hoped. We got off to a good start in endurance with times improving each lap. During lap four we had a failure on our front right spindle that caused the wheel and brake caliper to come off the car. Lucky the safety workers were able to quickly and safely remove our car and driver from the track. Although it did not go our way, competition was a great experience, thank you to everyone who made it possible!

Day three was an absolute success! We passed all three dynamic tech tests, with a pass in noise and brake on the first attempts. We then had a bit of practice before putting up a solid acceleration time. We then headed to autocross and skid pad where
we completed both with two drivers putting up times in each. We ended the day with a final acceleration run. This marked the end of
day three and the first time in three years we have finished the Friday of competition week with an intact car. We are in the top half of
endurance tomorrow and are excited to see what we can do in the final event.

Day 2 of competition was wet, cold, and still great. We presented to the design judges in the morning, then passed static tech soon after. We unfortunately did not have time to do any dynamic tech before our cost presentation, but knocked the presentation out of the park. We plan to get back at it first thing in the morning, first to dynamic tech and then off to acceleration, skidpad, and autocross.

Day 1 at Michigan International Speedway was overall a success! We went through static tech
and had to make a few changes to meet rules. Changes were made and we are ready for re-tech once we finish our design presentation.

Sad news this morning from HFR. There was some great teamwork this morning to have the car ready and running for endurance.

Unfortunately, right after the start of the race, we had another rear-end failure with a snap ring breaking, causing our axle to fail.

This is not at all how we thought this competition would end, but our team has learned a lot more about how to improve ourselves at competition, and we have found some for further testing and analysis back home.

That's a wrap for HFR at Formula SAE Michigan 2023
