“College Sunday”, in-person or digital, available for YOUR community of faith!

St. Andrew’s College has a long tradition of visiting communities of faith, large and small, to bring greetings, share the Gospel, and strengthen our bonds with the wider church.

During the pandemic, we developed innovative ways to continue that tradition with our new College Sunday digital resources. We now have a growing digital library of full worship services, including sermons, hymns, liturgical notes, and conversation-starter questions. Current themes include leadership, stewardship, compassion, vocation, humility, Wisdom in Creation, and "Small is Beautiful".

For more information about either digital or in-person College Sunday opportunities, contact Melanie Schwanbeck at the College office. [email protected]

St. Andrew's College Principal's Tour continues...

Supported by The United Church of Canada Foundation, the Principal's Tour project is based on the ongoing and successful College Sunday program, which allows St. Andrew’s to network with existing congregational partners.

As a program of mutuality, the College is able to maintain awareness of its program and develop connections. Faith communities, in turn, benefit from access to workshops that are intended to build resilience and capacity in these times of change.

As part of St. Andrew’s College’s development strategy, the Principal’s Tour embraces building relationships, nurturing lay leadership and those interested in ordered ministry, and stewardship that ensures the continued stability of the College.
The workshops and information evening are opportunities to offer continuing education to current lay and ordered leadership. They will also serve as models to invite reflection for those who might be considering a call to ministry.

For more information about the Principal's tour, head over here: https://standrews.ca/initiatives/principals-tour/

Celebrating Small Town Pride!

So glad to see our recent graduate, the Rev. Shane Goldie, preaching the Good Word at the Tabor Pride flag-raising a few weeks ago...

Rev. Shane says "In communities like Taber, our connections are vital. Living in a rural area can sometimes feel isolating, especially for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. But events like this show that we are not alone. We are part of a vibrant, diverse, and loving community that spans across our province and beyond. Our presence here today is a testament to the solidarity and support that exist within our community.
Supporting one another means embracing our differences and celebrating what makes each of us unique. It means standing together against discrimination and prejudice, and ensuring that every individual feels valued, respected, and safe. Our commitment to inclusivity must be unwavering, and our advocacy for 2SLGBTQ+ rights must be loud and clear."

During the event, Shane shared this original poem, entitled "The Rainbow Shepherd"

In the quiet of my heart, a gentle ache,
A longing whispers through the shadows,
A silent cry for love, for acceptance,
A shepherd yearning for a home among the flock.

I stand at the pulpit, words of grace upon my lips,
But beneath the vestments, my heart trembles,
For in the eyes of some, I am an outsider,
A soul not fit to guide, to hold, to lead.

I preach of love, boundless and divine,
Of a God who crafted each of us with care,
Yet, within the sacred halls, I find myself
A stranger, a wanderer, seeking refuge.

Oh, how I wish to be embraced,
To feel the warmth of unity, unbroken,
To know that I am seen, not judged,
Welcomed as I am, in truth, in love.

But often, there are whispers, shadows cast,
Doubts that cling like thorns around my heart,
Is my love less holy, my calling less divine?
In these moments, faith feels like a solitary path.

Yet, in the silence, I hear a voice,
Soft yet strong, like the breath of dawn,
"Beloved, you are mine, just as you are,
Your love, your truth, a reflection of Me."

And so, I rise, with courage in my soul,
To speak of justice, of love's unyielding flame,
For in the heart of God, there is a place
For every soul, for every heart that beats.

I shepherd with a wounded heart, yet whole,
Holding space for those who, like me, seek home,
And though the path is often fraught with pain,
I walk in light, in love, in hope's embrace.
