Reflecting on my time as an in-house physiotherapist at Canada’s National Ballet School on International Dance Day.
In addition to providing proactive and rehabilitative care during the day, I had the opportunity to offer emergency/injury care on performance days.
Here I am, equipped with the crutches, tape and bandaids all ready to go! Thank gosh I barely had to use them. The dancers at have been some of the most skilled athletes I have ever worked with!
Round 2! Was invited back to speak to nurses during another one of their education days.
Great questions from the audience, which included nurses from the urogynaecology clinics, special pregnancy program, and women’s health clinics.
What a fun way to wrap up a busy month of teaching!
Haven’t felt a wind like today since presenting for the Hot Topics event - right before this match!
Had the pleasure of being invited to be a part of the event’s guest panel, along with my fellow physiotherapy, orthopaedic and sports medicine colleagues.
Answered questions and took part in a discussion regarding movement as medicine, injury prevention, and acute injury care.
A great way to end the evening - witnessing an impressive goal by Toronto while standing behind the net with my fellow colleague at .
Summer 2023 has been sandwiched with teaching! One opportunity included being invited to speak on pelvic health to the nurses at
These nurses care for a wide range of patients in various clinics that focus on high-risk pregnancies, colposcopy, menopause, primary ovarian insufficiency, and urology-gynaecology.
Such a dynamic and passionate group. Looking forward to speaking at their next education day in a couple of months.
Update: now just several hours away!
Chatting about why ‘Movement is Medicine’ at the ahead of the game.

On days like today, it is an opportunity for me to reflect on all of the educational opportunities I have had thus far in my career.
So much more work should and could be done, both near and far, small and large. Yet, I am thankful for all the professional and personal support from fellow females (and human beings!) to this day.
A few shoutouts to some individuals in 2023 for their support!
Myotomes, dermatomes, reflexes, oh my! FINALLY back to in-person teaching.
Really enjoyed assisting first year University of Toronto Physical Therapy students during their Cervical Spine Clinical Skills Lab.
Although students shadowed me in-clinic during the pandemic, all group learning lab sessions were on-line…until now!
Can’t wait to go back - and experience more déjà-vu!
Manipulative Orthopaedic Physiotherapy - and that’s a wrap on the very last day of the in-person courses…ever!
To think that this photo was taken 4.5 years ago, when my journey officially began with the of the
Today was the official last day of Level 5…but now onto written and clinical exam studying, mentorship, research critical appraisal, advanced exams…and then (hopefully) designation!
So grateful for the helping “hand” from all the amazing instructors during this last leg of the journey.
Finished the weekend getting a cavitation (the “sound”) on the very last lumbar spinal manipulation on my partner - I’ll take it!

Mommy Connections Midtown Toronto Do you ever just meet someone and immediately love them?! Meet Larissa Tutert, Physiotherapist who was our amazing presenter for our Leaside Mom & Baby group this morning!
Though I’ve known Larissa for awhile now, today was our first time meeting in person and I was SO excited! Back in the spring when we were totally virtual, several Moms in my online programs told me I just HAD to meet Larissa and have her talk about pelvic health to our moms.
Currently the creator and instructor of the Pelvic Floor Health Workshops offered through the Prenatal Education Department at Mount Sinai Hospital, Larissa oozes knowledge and passion for her field of study and also compassion and understanding for her patients.
Larissa addressed so many questions and concerns about pelvic health pre and post baby and also reassured Moms that they don’t have to settle for discomfort. I wish every Mom got to hear this talk, it was amazing!

Kneed the knee control!
You can leg press at the gym until the cows come home, but is that aligned with your training and rehab goals?
If you don’t perform functional, eccentric, and speed-focused rehab exercises, then landings like the one that Raptor’s Chris Boucher did here may be felt in a whole variety of ways:
-knee buckling/feeling like it’s giving out
-kneecap/patella pain
-hip/groin pinch and tension
-ACL issues
-nerve irritation
-stiffened joints up the kinetic chain
The list goes on. Take proactive action!
Another podcast episode in the (virtual) books! Thank you for having me!
This conversation is SO important!
I'm incredibly happy to be able to have these conversations on the and I'm even more happy that Larissa Tutert, Physiotherapist took the time to join me for two full episodes on everything female athletes need to know about pelvic health prenatal, postpartum, and during labour and delivery.

Nope, these are not just stickers!
DO YOU: text or type a lot? Play an instrument? Work in construction? Frequently hold a newborn baby?
If you take a close look, you can see that these are acupuncture press needles, which are inserted quite superficially.
These areas correlate with the path of the nerves in the forearm and hand:
🪡 HT-7 - ulnar nerve and its branches (think ‘funny bone’, ring and pink fingers)
🪡 PC-6 - median nerve (think most forearm muscles and carpal tunnel syndrome)
I’d like to point out (pun intended), that in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), HT-7 and PC-6 are traditionally used to target anxiety/worry/insomnia and nausea/vomiting/insomnia/irritability, respectfully.
‼️Fun fact: I had around 8 press needles in when I was almost rolled into an MRI machine for a scan...forgot they were in!

Medical Acupuncture ft. Femoral Nerve stimulation
Old quad muscle strain? Pinching in the groin? Low back pain? Post-op knee ACL surgery?
In-line needle techniques (several needles in a row) can be used to help target chronic fascial restrictions and scar tissue from old injuries/compensations. Here, both high frequency (fast) and low frequency (slow) electrical muscle stimulation are simultaneously used to reduce pain and improve functional mobility, strength and power.
Want to learn more about the neurofunctional acupuncture approach? Check out the McMaster University program developed by and learn from - to name a few!
Enjoy movement, sport, exercise? Pregnant? Hoping to conceive?
Listen to Episode 6 of of where I chat with .zettel on how to optimize pelvic health during the prenatal period.
Stay tuned for Part 2 where we discuss all things labour & delivery, postpartum, and meeting your functional movement and performance goals.
Can you spot me?
With so many more events and spaces re-opening this weekend, I couldn’t help but think back to my time volunteering for the Invictus Games. Volunteers from all around the world came to Toronto to help out with the events (wheelchair basketball 🏀 and powerlifting 🏋️ to name a few).
Who’s itching for this sense of community again?
(Oh, and that’s President Joe Biden after the closing ceremony - he left Prince Harry and if I remember correctly, also Meghan Markle’s side in order to speak to us - impromptu!).

Sport really has the potential to bring people together.
Here’s hoping for a (safe and healthy) sense of normalcy...and no penalty shoot outs (brings me back to my competitive soccer days - I don’t wish that pressure on anyone!)
