We are delighted to share some wonderful feedback from two of our full-time ESL students, Yeji Kang and Yanghun Choi. This married couple, both police officers from Korea, have been studying at CCEL since March 18, 2024. Enrolled in our intensive program with 28 lessons per week, they will continue their studies until September 13, 2024, including a two-week vacation. During their time in Vancouver, Yeji and Yanghun have been enjoying the comfort and convenience of our Residence Studio accommodation.

We asked them a couple of questions about their CCEL experience, and here is what they answered:

What made you choose CCEL over other English language schools?
"We needed to improve our overall English skills. We found out that this place had a curriculum that was right for us. So we chose this place. Actually, it is not easy for a couple to think about studying abroad together, but through this school, we were able to stay comfortably in accommodation where we could live together, study together, and gain greater synergy."

How has your English improved since studying at CCEL?
"We were used to grammar-oriented education, so our listening and speaking skills were significantly lower. I trusted several English teachers we met and followed them slowly. It had a great influence on our learning ability improvement. Speaking and listening skills in Canada were remarkably improved after the class was conducted. Now, we can have enough conversations with native speakers as well."

Can you share a specific experience at CCEL that made a significant impact on your learning?
"There are students from many countries here. We learned various cultures by conducting classes with students from many countries. And we became friends. Through this experience, we had deeper thoughts. In addition, I formed a book club with friends of various nationalities and spent a good time after school once a week. And I was able to make unforgettable memories by spending a good time on the beach and traveling to the suburbs together."

How did the diverse and international environment at CCEL enhance your overall experience?
"Through this school, I was able to learn English knowledge and how to communicate. Based on that, I was able to enjoy various activities such as picnics in the suburbs, travel, and camping, make friends from various countries, communicate constantly, and share my thoughts, culture, and daily life with each other. I am happy to be able to have a bigger dream starting with this."

What would you say to someone considering enrolling at CCEL to improve their English skills?
"Many people have fear and nervousness about English. But I want to tell those who are worried about it. If you trust this school and study, your English will improve naturally. Don't be afraid to start."

HOW NOT TO LEARN, BUT MEMORIZE WORDS. 5 TIPS⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Do you know that unpleasant feeling when you have been learning words for a very long time but then you have a test and suddenly realize that you don't remember any words🤯? Or while reading an article you see such a familiar word but you cannot call up what the translation is at all? We are sure that you know this feeling (as we do). So here are some tips on how to learn and memorize new words.⠀
⠀⠀
🔷 Try to learn in context. Your brain doesn't understand learning words for the sake of it. The words should be useful and your brain should understand what it needs them for. Learning context also helps you to use this word in speech.⠀
🔷 Use google or quizlet.com for pictures. Try to learn not only how the word is written but also its image. On quizlet.com you can also make your own translations in pictures and remember words with its help.⠀
🔷 Try to translate something useful to you. If you applying for a job in a company in mind, try to translate its page or your favourite song.⠀
🔷 Use pages such as Memoize.tv. You can enter a new word and find small fragments of videos with this word. We are sure that after the @ #$@%th fragment the word is stuck in your memory.⠀
🔷 Try to write small dialogues or stories. This also connects back to your mechanic memory like the first piece of advice.⠀
⠀⠀
Do you know more tricks to remember words that you have learnt?

11 Steps to Achieving a High IELTS Score

7️⃣Listen to the news and watch documentaries on various topics in English.
8️⃣Practice talking with other English speakers about yourself – your hobbies, interests, everyday life, family, job, dreams and professional aspirations.
9️⃣When you have a solid foundation of English language knowledge and skills, join an IELTS course or work with a professional IELTS tutor.
🔟If you are not sure whether you are ready to start preparing for the IELTS exam, take a diagnostic test and get feedback from a professional instructor on your level and next steps - USE free English level test at Canada-English.com/level test
1️⃣1️⃣Towards the end of your IELTS preparation, start practicing with full-length tests under realistic conditions for several weeks before the test date.

How long does it take to learn English?

A beginner can learn English in a year. Specifically, a year is the average amount of time it will take an adult to become fluent enough to work in English if he starts out as a beginner and studies at least 5 hours a day. But everyone is different.
How long it will take you to learn English depends on many things:

* Your current level of English
* The level of English you need (Hint: for most people, upper intermediate is enough)
* Which languages you already speak
* If you’re living in an English-speaking country
* How hard you study
* How much you practice
* How good you are at learning languages

The best way to estimate how long it will take you personally to learn English is to figure out the number of hours it will take to go from the level you are now to the level you want to be.
1. To find out what your current level is test your English at canada-english.com/en/leveltest
2. Decide which level of English you need. Most people need B2 level to work in English, but that depends on your job and the country you’re working in.

Calculate how many hours it will take you to get from the level of English you have to the level of English you need. Here at Canadian College students can complete one level in 2 months of full time course on average.

So if you’re currently a beginner and you need to reach a B2 level, that’s 70 + 150 + 300 + 200 = 720 hours of instruction. Add another 50% to these estimates if you only speak one language and it’s a language quite different from English (for example Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Korean)

1. Divide the total hours into days to see how long it will take you to learn English. In the above example, taking an English class for 1 hour per week, you would need 720 weeks or almost 14 years to learn English! However, if you take with 5 hours a day ( 5 days a week) plus 2 more hours of studying and practice, it would take you 102 days to learn English. Assuming you don’t have classes on weekends, that’s about 6 months.
Hopefully this brief guide has helped you make a rough estimate of how long it will take you to learn English.

Hello Monday ! Another beautiful week studying English in VANCOUVER❤️

07/22/2022

Here are my top three ways to trick your brain into learning a new language faster:
1. Create a sense of urgency
A common complaint when learning a new language? Lack of time.
After a full day at work or in school, exposing your brain to massive amounts of information, your brain might refuse to study a new language at all costs for a simple reason – it doesn’t want to spend the extra energy!
So, how do you fight back?
Join an actual class with human beings
Any class. An online class, in-person class (register at Canada-English.com) The goal is for somebody to keep you accountable. Committing to showing up with other people, especially with a class and a teacher, will provide a healthy degree of pressure.

Listening to music on your way to school or work, watching movies or Netflix shows on the weekends, reading a magazine during breakfast or posting on social media in your target language are all great ways to start getting real with your learning.
That way you are exposed to new vocabulary the entire day

2. Make your learning as personal as possible
Our brains tend to forget things we don’t need. Or things we find uninteresting.
Your mission? Tricking your brain into believing these foreign words are meaningful, necessary and personal.
Use your own photos
Next time you create a flashcard for the word “dog” in English, know that your brain is more likely to recall the word if you take a picture of your own pet and then use it as the face of the flashcard, rather than using the equivalent English translation, for example.
And doing this on your smartphone is super easy – install a free flashcard app such as Quizlet or AnkiApp and upload your own photos.

3. Repeat and apply what you learn immediately

Applying what you’ve learned by speaking to a teacher, a classmate or a group is crucial, as external reward keeps our learning going. You can also practice writing the same word in at least ten different sentences as soon as you learn it – repeating it in context will not only help you remember, but it will also help make sense of what you just learned.

Simple Ways to Speak English Every Day

By some estimates, reaching fluency in English takes over 500 hours of active study. Sounds really intimidating, right? The easiest way to rack up all of the study hours is to try to speak English every day. Of course, if you don’t live in an English-speaking country, this might prove a bit tricky.

Here are some useful tips:

1. Follow the English News.
2. Listen to Podcasts on Your Commute.
4. Trick Yourself Into Learning English on Your Phone.
5. Get in the Habit of Writing in English.
6. Focus on Speaking the Language.
7. Bury Your Nose in a Great Book.
8. Play English Games in Your Downtime.
9. Crash in Front of the Television.😉

But the most effective way is to join CCEL Live course and practice with professional Canadian teachers and classmates from all over the world.
