Black Spruce Acupuncture

Gentle, rejuvenating Japanese-style acupuncture for relieving pain, balancing hormones, regulating digestion, sleep, energy, and more
-Alix Jean, R.Ac.

Why Black Spruce? This adaptable little evergreen thrives in Canada from coast to coast, even in poor boggy soils near my home in northern BC. Like a breath of sharp northern air in the forest, black spruce is powerfully grounding and calming. It is considered sacred in First Nations medicine; both nourishing stimulating to the nervous system, and is ideal especially for those feeling depleted. B

Room for Practitioner to Rent and/or Mentorship in Japanese Acupuncture in Langford BC
Room available to acupuncturist/TCMP on Sat/Sun/Mondays (with possibility of other half days if needed) in a small health collective near Goldstream, on Station Ave.
This is an up and coming neighbourhood with tons of folks moving to the area. It would be best suited to a registered acupuncturist or TCM practitioner with some existing clientele.
The Clinic:
Our collective is currently made of 1 TCM Practitioner, 3 RMT’s, and 2 counsellors. We share the waiting room, office amenities, laundry machines and cleaner cost but all are self-employed.
As a collective, we value quiet, cleanliness, and those who work well independently while able to come together on common concerns. The contract is a sublease so the vast majority of office concerns will be taken care of for you. Month to month contract.
Common Amenities: laundry, small kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle, waiting room (usually door is locked in between appointments), staff and patient washrooms, weekly cleaning service on all common areas.
The Room:
Large with big bright windows and furnished with light/white decor, heated wide Master massage table, Bose sound, HEPA air filtration, ergonomic practitioner stool. Access to TDP lamp and linens possible. Moxa allowed.
The Options:
1. For non-acupuncturists or those interested in renting without practice collaboration, the flat rent is $150 “per day per month” (i.e. $450 for all Sat/Sun/Mondays of the month, with 6-hour shifts or $550 for a month of Sat/Sun/Mon all day), plus GST. Please note this is the rental fee for the full month, not the week. Option to work 5ish til 8ish on Thursdays and Fridays as well with rates TBD. BYO linens, marketing, clientele and treatment supplies.
2. Potential for a mentorship/associate arrangement with access to online booking & direct billing (Janeapp), support to learn your own direct billing, linens, TDP, web listings, social media presence, and other practice-building support. Best fit for someone with interest in Japanese acupuncture, or in utilizing a TCM herbal dispensary with 70+ organic ground raw herbs from Spring Wind. Percentage split 70/30 with base rent and cap negotiable.
I have been in practice since 2014 in Greater Victoria and have built a thriving solo practice and loyal clientele focussed solely on one-to-one appointments with interactive hands-on sessions. I work with a lot of chronic pain management, hormone and digestive health, and concussion management and I would love to offer support on tricky cases, help build practice and skills, and spread this medicine especially on Japanese acupuncture techniques. Lenka has leukemia. She has decided to fight! 07/25/2023

My friend in Serbia has asked me to share this gofundme page for little Lenka, who needs a bone marrow transplant urgently and has 2 weeks to raise the funds. Please share widely!

Lenka has leukemia. She has decided to fight! I am writing this with a heavy heart, seeking your support during this difficult time. Lenka is a two year old baby girl from Serbia who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June 2022. Her only hope of survival is a bone marrow transplant. A donor was found and she has 2 weeks left to

Summer is here! As the heat is suddenly upon us, I’m noticing in myself the fluidity and potency of mindful movement practices, that the “yang” energy of the sun combines with breath to limber up my muscles and joints and soften into my tight spots with much more ease than the cold months. So good.
With more sun, more energy, more summer fun times and less pain, this is a great time to use that extra yang/warming/activated energy in a healing capacity. Blood is pumping to the extremities, vitamin D levels are up, and there is medicine in getting outside for those long summer days.
There’s also great value in using that activation and energy and drawing that intention deep into our bodies to replenish and store what’s been missing. Can you feel a spark returning? As always it’s about balance. Not too hot, not too cold. Not too active, not too passive.
So this summer do some preemptive work to move some qi, but also avoid drying up and burning out (much like those raging forest fires). Take some yin time—in clinic or otherwise!

🍂 "Frost Descends" Clinic Newsletter - https://mailchi.mp/0e995bd26ef8/frost-descends-clinic-newsletter

The work of the mature person
is to carry grief in one hand
and gratitude in the other and
to be stretched large by them.
How much sorrow can I hold?
That’s how much gratitude I
can give. If I carry only grief, I’ll
bend toward cynicism
and despair. If I have only
gratitude, I’ll become
saccharine and won’t develop
much compassion for other
people’s suffering.
Grief keeps the heart fluid and
soft, which helps make
compassion possible.

Hi out there! Check out my new blog post for a story on how I found acupuncture, and maybe why you should too. (Link in bio). the gyst: For many of us, health is not a final destination (in fact, death is). Health is a learning journey of alignment with ourselves, of attunement to our individual needs and preferences and our familial, social and environmental surroundings. And acupuncture can be a vital tool to help us attune to ourselves, our surroundings, and to enrich our lives. Acupuncture, like all life learning, requires an ongoing commitment to showing up.

How’s everyone getting through Omicron days? 🦠 😑
For myself, contracting the virus meant some days resting at home, observing the process of sneezes, fevers and sweats as my body does what it innately knows to do (with help of herbs 🌿 , fluids 💧 , vaccines💉). This time has been a nice catch-up on study time with Sharon Weizenbaum ’s Graduate Mentorship in the White Pine Circle Program of Chinese herbs. I’m excited to show you what’s coming to clinic soon! (hint: all organic custom Chinese herbs in the sourcing and ordering process🎋)
For some tips on how to use diet to support you through respiratory illness, check out https://anncecilsterman.com/a-dietary-response-to-staying-healthy-during-an-epidemic-by-andrew-sterman/
And please keep in mind there are more cancellations than normal these days, with all the absenteeism due to illness. This means (if you’re feeling healthy), there’s extra space to book a session to keep your mind and body functioning optimally ☯️ 💫

If you find yourself feeling detached, overwhelmed or just pooped (see picture)— this is just a friendly reminder that we are in the middle of a global grief, a global shift in expectations, a global new normal. The coronavirus has vastly changed our everyday lives. This can show up in the body in a wild and wondrous array of symptoms.
Japanese acupuncture helps with regulation of our nervous systems and eases symptoms ranging from autoimmune flares to headaches, to anxiety and tension, from mood changes to digestive turmoil. If you’re anything like my patients, lately you might have found your symptoms flaring up.
Find me in my home-based clinic or , where I’ll lend an ear and a hand (or two). I’ll ponder your signs, symptoms and stories to create a cohesive picture of what’s going on in your system, and let your nervous system do some sorting. There are still support services available in these strange new days.
Please make sure to book ahead to ensure you can get the time you need!
