The film, written directed by Canadian auteur Guy Maddin, follows the seven leaders of the world’s wealthiest liberal democracies at the annual G7 summit after they become lost in the woods and face increasing peril while attempting to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis.

“A Man for All Shack-Up Seasons”

After a meet-cute, a suddenly grown-up Paul (Paul Rabliauskas) struggles to build a connection with a woman whose behaviour eerily reminds him of his old ways. Broken-hearted, Paul digs deep and puts in his best effort to be the best man at Rose (Cheyenna Sapp) and Stephen Harper’s (Aqqalu Meekis, I STILL SEE YOU) wedding. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Jo (Roseanne Supernault, THE DRIVE) and recently reformed Cousin Leon (Michael Greyeyes, RUTHERFORD FALLS) as they work to fix the local high school. Dean (Gabriel Daniels, THE ICE ROAD) encourages Greg (Erik Athavale, BED REST) to stick up to his domineering father.

WBD France, NBCU Germany, Japan’s Wowow buy eOne drama Spencer Sisters International buyers including Warner Bros Discovery in France, NBCUniversal in Germany and Japan’s Wowow have acquired Canadian drama series The Spencer Sisters.

‘THE SPENCER SISTERS’ Lea Thompson, starring in a live-action series for the first time since ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth” ended in 2017, plays a Canadian mystery writer who solves crimes with her ex-cop daughter. The joke is that the vain, libidinous mom and the no-nonsense daughter get mistaken for sisters, or so the mother would believe; call it “Murder, She Flirted.” (CW, Oct. 4)

Back in the present, Thompson is excited about starring in the CW series Spencer Sisters (originally called The Spencer Sisters, premiering Oct. 4). A frothy mystery which she describes as “Gilmore Girls meets Murder, She Wrote,” it chronicles the crime-solving adventures of a well-to-do famous author (Thompson) and her tomboy police-officer daughter (Stacey Farber, Degrassi: The Next Generation) in a small town. (The title references the fact that the two are often mistaken for sisters.) “We become private detectives even though we don’t get along very well,” she explains. “So, it’s fun comfort TV. Viewers can solve the mysteries along with us.”
