In recent decades, most pharma corporations have withdrawn from developing new . Now, governments are trying to lure them back into research & development (R&D) with rewards for bringing new drugs to market.

BUT, how do these “pull incentives" affect ACCESS? 👇

R&D incentives that promote monopolies, boost high drug prices & provide unconditional market-entry rewards will make new lifesaving less affordable & accessible for low- & middle-income communities with high antimicrobial resistance ( ) burden.

Governments should prioritise public & non-profit R&D initiatives when channelling public funds, and structure pull incentives in ways that encourage timely, equitable, affordable access to the new medicines - in the places they are needed most.

At least 7 countries have written letters to Danaher Corporation and Cepheid, requesting the corporations to lower the prices of their medical tests, so that many more people can get diagnosed and treated, for (the most severe form of TB), , and other diseases.

We strongly support their demands to save more lives.

Danaher continues to charge exorbitant prices for lifesaving medical tests despite urgent demands for price reductions by several Ministries of Health Following GeneXpert TB test price reduction, several low- and middle-income countries’ Ministries of Health request the same price reduction of other tests.

As the board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance meets to vote on Gavi 6.0, their next 5-year strategy (2026-2030), we urge them to ensure it has concrete steps to reach the 10 million unvaccinated children in fragile and humanitarian settings.

The strategy must:

● Include ways to reach people with little or no access to government vaccination services

● Have a permanent policy ensuring vaccine support for children up to age 5 for all relevant vaccines

● Contain dedicated funding for this work

Lately, we have witnessed an increase in vaccine-preventable outbreaks, often the result of the under-immunisation of children in hard-to-reach places. Gavi must prioritise closing these vaccination gaps, to prevent further outbreaks and save more lives.

People living with diabetes report they prefer insulin pens BUT these are often inaccessible in low and middle-income countries and rarely used by humanitarian agencies because of the high prices charged by Eli Lilly and Company, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi.

We’ve found that analogue insulin pens could cost US$ 111 for some type 1 diabetes patients annually and STILL turn a profit. This is 30% less than human insulin in vials and syringes, which had so far been thought to be the most affordable option.
