Ela captured me doing what I love - beach time and puppy time.

Giving love. Receiving love. Once our edges have disintegrated they both feel like the same thing.

I have so many photos of Toledo but this one is my favourite. Toledo was the capital from 542 to 725 AD, of the Visigothic kingdom, which followed the fall of the Roman Empire. The town itself is mentioned in old texts dating it back it to at least 193 BC. This was a place of prosperity, ingenuity, insurrection, mass murders, & wars.

As I wandered through the narrow streets feeling the energy of times long gone and stories never told, I came across a closed door. The morning sun illuminated this old orange wall just as I nudged open the door. I like these spaces. The places between the old and new.

The layers of centuries buried and rebuilt.

Not unlike us.

He loved fiercely. He was stoic, gentle, and direct. Always aware. Not for one moment did I see him stop working. This is the calling of a Livestock Guardian. Right up to the very end he worked despite the pain he was in. He protected the goats, chickens, and humans, always without hesitation. He was prepared to give his life to protect anyone on the farm.

He was loved by the hundreds and hundreds of people over the 8 years of his life who came and visited the farm. Everyone was in awe of his stature and grace. No one could forget the size of his head.

He was completely selfless.

He loved snow.

He loved digging holes to find a cool place to lay down.

He loved howling every night with Gio and creating the most beautiful songs.

He loved to follow me down to the farmstand every evening. He knew that as soon as I came back inside the gate I would flop down with him in the long grass and use him as my pillow. We would stare at the sky and then he would sigh and close his eyes. He would get belly rubs and a back massage. He would give me his unwavering protection and love. The language we used was never with words and yet it was far deeper than any words I know.

Like dogs do, he took the pain away from us humans, and I often worried that he kept it for his own.

I will always remain in the deepest gratitude for the space and energy that he held for me and for those on the farm. He let my tears wash over his fur as he gently listened to the pain I didn’t know how to express.

Thank you to the many of you that gave this boy snuggles and love.

I went to Barcelona for the architecture, art, and of course all things Gaudi. I have been left both speechless and giddy with joy.

Strolling around the meandering streets of the Gothic quarter, I stumbled across insanely good espresso houses and tapa bars. It will be hard to leave the food and colour of Spain.

A week in England’s countryside nourished me in a whole new way.
Forever a student.

I remain amazed every single day at how Motherhood has exploded my heart open in ways I never conceived possible. The gift I strive to give my children is that they may know their inner truth and trust in It so fully that It becomes the only guide that they need to navigate this world.

The connection to the unknown and to the magical that sits in each one of us. Steady. Calm. Unwavering. Knowing. Perhaps we will all come to know the unknown.

Beach life and jungle living has fostered exploration in my children beyond the many boundaries, expectations, and conditions that we all face. This is partly because of the environment, and partly because of the deconstruction of myself.

Beyond the boundaries I accepted as reality, is freedom.

Martha’s Vineyard last week. Flying over the east coast day-dreaming of lives long past on these rugged ocean waters. Mesmerized my the diversity of grasses and ochre-coloured cliffs. No Martha. No grapes. And certainly no vineyards.
