Last week, UWC Costa Rica had a blast at our Community Day Camp! 🎉 This event was a fantastic opportunity for students to bond, get to know each other better, and build a strong sense of community. From creative group activities to sharing personal poems, everyone had a wonderful time.

This experience is an essential part of our students' two-year journey at UWC Costa Rica, fostering leadership, belonging, and a lifelong commitment to service. During orientation, in alignment with our Strategic Plan, we had the opportunity to welcome the Green Schools National Network (GSNN) at our campus, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and to our principles of learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime. ✨🍃

A series of workshops followed our student experience and aligned with our Strategic Line #1. The GSNN team gathered members of all areas and programs of our college to evaluate how sustainability is being applied in our daily tasks to cultivate a holistic, experiential, and sustainability-based educational model at UWC Costa Rica. ⚡️

We thank Jenny and Cheney for their leadership during the sessions, Esmeralda Pérez from the Huetar community member, and Mr. Edgar Mora, former Minister of Education, for participating during the workshops. It is exciting to be the first GSNN sustainability partner in Latin America! | UWC

Agents of Change Unleashed! ⚡️ Some of our incredible 2nd year AoC (Agents of Change) facilitators from UWC Costa Rica inspired the youth of CTP San Isidro to become agents of change in their communities. 🙌

In a series of workshops this past August 24th, we explored leadership, sustainability, and the power of positive action. This initiative, led by the Co-Curricular team, solidifies our commitment and involvement with the San Isidro community, and future neighbors for our new campus. 🍃

Students aren't the only ones starting a life-changing experience at our College! We hosted a "cafecito" for first-year families at campus to greet them, get to know them better, share knowledge, and prepare us for the next two years at UWC Costa Rica and a lifetime of opportunities as UWC alums. 🎉

We were joined by current students, Costa Rican alums, volunteer alum family members, our Management Team, and the Residential Life team so that family members could better understand what the next chapter in their student's life would look like. ⚡️ They were also joined by our 2nd year RAs (Residence Assistants) on a campus tour and finished their day sharing treats from their home countries with the rest of the attendees. 😋

During Orientation Week, our first-year students embarked on a thrilling adventure to discover the heart of Costa Rica's capital! 🏙️ Exploring Parque Morazán, Mercado de Artesanos, and visiting the National Theater and la Plaza de la Cultura, they explored iconic landmarks, savored delicious snacks, and learned about the rich culture of San José. 🎒

This is a glimpse of what students will experience during "Conociendo Costa Rica," a deeper dive into Costa Rican culture across our different provinces. This Co-Curricular initiative lets our students learn from nature and from each other, embodying our principles and values. ✨ | UWC

Do you know what happens at UWC Costa Rica when students finish their academic year?

Our Outreach & Innovation team ensures our experiential learning model can be enjoyed by bigger communities, and our campus stays open for rentals, workshops, and camps! In July, we held our local Leadership Summer Camp, where young folks dived into what becoming an agent of change means. This 5-day workshop allowed them to understand different cultural contexts in Costa Rica and through, explore how they can apply all this knowledge in their communities.

107 new students from 51 different countries are joining us on campus this week to start their orientation at college. They are joined by second years Resident Assistants (RAs), and Student Council (StuCo). These selected second years, as well as our Residence Coordinators and staff members are warmly welcoming everyone to our campus in Santa Ana. ⚡️

Meet Mery, member of our cleaning team at UWC Costa Rica ❤️ Mery has collaborated for over 21 years at our campus, long before it became a UWC College! She's part of what we call our tíos and tías (uncles and aunts in Spanish), constantly overseeing and routinely cleaning and maintaining our physical spaces for everyone in the community to enjoy. ❤️ Specifically, Mery works in the classrooms and administrative offices.

This is Cristian, Project Manager for Marketing and Communications at UWC Costa Rica. He is our creative powerhouse, leading our brand and content at the college. ⚡️

Cristian has been working for more than three years as our in-house photographer and content creator and has been working on evolving our institutional brand to be more cohesive and accessible for our community. Meet Mario and Danitza, Cook A, and Steward Cook, respectively, at UWC Costa Rica. ⚡️ Mario is in charge of adding "sazón" to the food in our Kitchen, spicing up and cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for over 300 people daily at our campus. Danizza is always ready for any supporting task inside the kitchen and helps manage inventory and stock.

They are both joined by ~100 adults on campus, providing the best experiential learning experience possible to students. This is Milagros, aka Mili, Residence Life Assistant at UWC Costa Rica. She manages everything administrative at Residential Life, talking with students, residential life staff and medical staff, with the particular role of managing their 24/7 availability schedule.

Mili is the reference point for all the college when contacting the residential life staff. Many students and alums may recognize her from her 2+ years at UWC, but others may remember her during her days as a UWC Costa Rica student! 🦋

Meet Tatiana, Outreach Coordinator and International Partnerships at UWC Costa Rica. Tati leads Outreach & Innovation, an initiative in our college that extends our mission and experiential learning model to broader local and international audiences.

Tatiana is developing all the logistics behind the new Sustainability and Innovation Center on our new campus, fine-tuning all the details to receive students and professionals from all around the globe. She also maintains close contact with our international partners and nurtures strategic alliances with different organizations and colleges from the country to create extension programs, short courses, and camps. 🔥

Karla spends all her day around books. When students are around, she helps them access multiple sources and references for their projects and studies, both digital and physical. She's also a bookworm and loves talking about different books with students and staff whenever she can. 👀

Luigi supports the administrative staff by scheduling and arranging events, greeting special visitors to the college, managing some of our director's schedules, and working with students to arrange our community meetings ✨ He's also involved in our payment process, making sure all external providers are compensated fairly and on-time. ⚡️
