Aalto University Summer School

The first week of our August summer courses has come to an end with 150 students from all over the globe updating their skills and making new friends on the Aalto University campus. ⭐️

This week wasn't just about academics – it was a whirlwind of nature walks, lab experiments, studio visits, scavenger hunts (where no one got lost), company visits, endless dinners, and a whole lot of “much more” that we probably shouldn't talk about! 🎉🌪️

🌞 Last week our students from Introduction to VR course presented their VR projects on the final Demo day. The projects were super innovative and fun. Our students seemed to have enjoyed the course and the process. During the course, they also had a VR game on Aalto Campus led by their course teacher Gautam Vishwanath. 😁

Yesterday, our summer school students had an incredible time exploring Nuuksio National Park! 🥳🌳

Our summer school teacher, Lidia, led us through a scenic trail with lakes and lush greenery. Highlights included refreshing views, berry picking along the hike 🍓, capturing beautiful moments 📸, and a quick swim in the warm lake water 🏊‍♀️.

Participating in social programs gives students a chance to meet others from different summer courses and explore Finland together. ✨ We have exciting trips planned to Porvoo, Suomenlinna, and Nuuksio! 🚍🏞️🏰

We know summer isn't over yet, but we can't help it – Aalto University Winter School is kicking off at the beginning of January 2025 and we want you to be a part of it! ⛄ Applications open in October, save the date and secure your place.

On Wednesday, our summer school students took a trip to the charming town of Porvoo! ☀️ The sun was shining brightly as they enjoyed a guided tour, exploring the town's rich history and culture. The students also had the chance to visit Porvoo's adorable stores and cozy cafes!🌸

🌞🎉 Aalto University Summer School kicked off the July summer course with a bang! Our students had an amazing time participating in a Scavenger Hunt around Töölönlahti, followed by a relaxing picnic. 🧺🌿

Students were grouped for fun activities, and the winning team even snagged some adorable Finnish-themed prizes! ✨

🎓 Digital Business, the master's level summer course for July 2024, has just wrapped up! 🚀 27 International students joined the program for 2 intensive weeks of exploring platforms and ecosystems, business design thinking, data-driven marketing, strategic management of technological innovation, data-intensive business and AI ethics.

What a fantastic start to our summer course! 🎉 Digital Business students arrived on campus Monday morning and enjoyed some delicious Finnish korvapuusti before diving into their first lecture.
We wrapped up the day with a fantastic tapas night at Bistro O’Mat where everyone got to know each other better! 🍷

🌸✨ Get ready for a weekend of celebration – it's Juhannus, Finnish Midsummer!

☀️ Did you know that Midsummer is all about the "nightless night" celebration in Finland? North of the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn't set at all, creating continuous daylight. Even in the southern parts of the country, there is plenty of light throughout the night.

🍃 Finns love to sauna year-round, but during Midsummer it's extra special. It's also a time when the use of vihta – a bundle of fresh, fragrant birch twigs – is popular for gentle tapping oneself or others in the sauna, increasing the blood circulation and filling the air with a fresh, summery fragrance.

🌾 It's typical for cities to empty during Midsummer as people head to the countryside. Grilling food, gathering around bonfires, and picking flowers are cherished traditions during Juhannus.

“It is all about embarking on a journey that has people, and their different social environments, as its main focus. Nowadays, we hear, think and are bombarded with associations of the word ‘radical’ with flashy designs, fashion, big-scale economic gain, or materialistic processes. 💥 Oftentimes, we forget that radical action also comes from smaller gestures and actions, like from the act of people gathering – in groups, collectives and social movements.”, 🤝 says Natalia Villaman.

“We usually tend to think of creativity as something we do, but we rarely consider the inner dimension from which creativity is born. In this course, we hope to offer space, tools and possibilities to look inward and understand how your thoughts, feelings, and sensations are connected with the creative processes you participate in.”, 🦋 Ricardo Dutra fills in.
