Tolga Benzer will defend his doctoral dissertation “Essays on the Economics and Politics of Religious Institutions” today.

The thesis concerns the interplay between religious institutions and society. The religious institutions examined are (Muslim) religious schools and (Christian) missions. Benzer shows that these institutions had profound effects on society in terms of female schooling, female labor force participation, and voting behavior.

Defense will be held starting at the Aalto University 13.00.
