We are in the process of updating our registration with Healthcare Improvement Scotland for our service conditions to include being able to accept patients under 14 for dermatology consultations.
Further to discussions today with our HIS inspector, the estimated timeframe for this to commence is 1st June, subject to support staff completing additional training and updated policies to reflect this change. We are hopeful we will have this all completed in time.
Our plan is to have dedicated paediatric dermatology clinics with Dr Duncan, subject to demand.
No clinic dates have been confirmed as yet, however we will open the wait lists now, so that as soon as we have everything in place we will be able to get a date for our first paediatric clinic.

As Skin Cancer Awareness month is coming to a close soon, we thought we would remind you of the importance of taking care of your skin and checking your skin regularly.
A few thinks to remember
✅ Remember to wear your sun screen - 5* UVA with at least an SPF 30.
✅Drink plenty of water. Cover up with a hat and long sleeves. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and neck.
✅Limit your time in the sun and stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm.
✅Don’t forget to apply sun cream to those easy to miss places - lips, tops of ears, back of neck, feet and scalp.
❌Do not let your skin go red or burn
❌Do not use a sunbed or sunlamp. If it is important for you to look tanned, use fake tan lotions or sprays
What are the symptoms of skin cancer?
Different types of skin cancer can vary in how they look. Most commonly, non-melanoma skin cancer can appear as:
▪️smooth and pearly-white
▪️waxy
▪️a firm, red lump or may look sunken in the middle
▪️a pearly brown or black lump if you have darker skin
▪️a flat, red spot that is scaly and crusty a pale non-healing scar.
Look out for areas of skin that never completely heal, feel itchy and bleed sometimes, develop a crust or scab or develop into a painless ulcer.
What are the signs and symptoms of melanoma?
Melanoma is a cancer that usually starts in the skin. A change in the shape, colour or size of a mole is usually the first sign of melanoma. A melanoma can start either:
▪️as a new mole
▪️in a mole you already have.
Most melanomas start with a new, abnormal-looking mole on your skin. This usually looks like a dark area, although melanomas can have more than one colour. Other melanomas develop from a mole you already have that changes over weeks or months.
It can be difficult to tell the difference between a melanoma and a normal mole. With moles or other skin changes, it is a good idea to learn to recognise any new or changing areas on your skin. This helps you to recognise what is sometimes called the ‘ugly duckling’ sign. This is a mole that stands out because it looks different to other moles. Always ask your GP to check anything that looks different or unusual.
The ABCDE check list in this video explains what to look for when checking moles or other skin changes.
