🇸🇮Fantastic to spend time with the great Miha Istenic last week!

Miha visited Bath from Slovenia where he makes multiple-award winning, super delicious sparkling wines under his family label, Istenic 🥂

We’ll let Miha introduce Istenic and his wines over the next couple of weeks and it’s well worth getting to know these tremendous value for money sparklers, especially with Christmas just around the corner ✨

Last week, Ben hosted winemaker Klaas Stoffberg at where Chef Henry Scott cooked up a storm with a beautiful tasting of 7 courses, celebrating the best of British. All the dishes were paired with Babylonstoren wines and the evening was guided by Klaas who shared stories from the winery and vineyard in South Africa. It was a lovely evening and a full circle for Ben as Babylonstoren's cellarmaster Charl Coetzee was in Novel Wines' crowdfunding video when we launched the business in 2016, so the opportunity to celebrate with Klaas and Duncan, who we've worked with over the past 8 years, before Ben steps down in December was a real joy. Here's to many more years of collaboration! Cheers!

🇷🇴 Introducing Balla Geza’s Mustoasa de Maderat, a gorgeous, full, golden coloured Romanian white wine. It’s fresh and ripe, full of stone fruits, floral aromas and completed with hints of ginger. It’s warm flavours and smooth feel make this an easy drinking wine and a wonderful food partner!

🏞️Also known Magyarádi Fehér in Hungary, Mustoasa de Maderat is a rare grape variety unique to the Minis wine-region, specifically the northern part. Across six wines we'll introduce you to some delicious examples of Lebanese and Moroccan wines that are heavily influenced by France in how they're made and how they taste (think Bordeaux and Rhone reds and whites!) 🌟A leading light of Tokaj! 🥂

Endre Demeter is a brilliant winemaker focusing on the indigenous Furmint grape variety as well as organic, hand harvested winemaking and only the best viticultural methods. Using his vineyards, which are in the finest locations in and around the village of Mad in Tokaj, Hungary, he can utilise the diverse range of soils in the region and create many fantastic wines.

🖼️Of his beautiful, historical vineyards, non are prized more than Demeter's Uragya 57 parcel, a 103-year-old hillside vineyard with volcanic bedrock and red clay, planted with vines as old as the vineyard. Because of the age of these old bush vines, the yield is very low (0.3kg per vine) but also very concentrated, which gives the wines a powerful, complex and unique taste. The position of his Uragya parcels lead to some of the best quality, mineral-rich white wines we've ever enjoyed.

🥂Alongside that, you can also try Endre Demeter's incredible and elegant estate Furmint or indulge in an expertly made sweet nectar with his Tokaji Szamorodni from the brilliant 2013 vintage, it's his rare treats that proves Tokaj is one of the finest wine regions on the planet. We're pleased to introduce the new 2022 vintage of one of our favourite wines, Sabar's Keknyelu Kõmagas!

🌋Those of you who have tried other vintages will know the delicious volcanic minerality and the citrus and white flower notes of Keknyelu and the 2022 is packed full of those.

☀️2022 was a warmer season than 2021 in the Komegas vineyard next to Lake Balaton where this wine was made. So, the fruitiness really shines here but it still has the zippiness that makes it so refreshing.

🌋A producer of legendary volcanic wines!🌋

Run by Gábor Riesz and his family, Fekete Pince is a beautiful winery located on the southern slopes of Somló, a defunct volcano, near Lake Balaton in West Hungary. Because of their location they can take advantage of the rich volcanic soils, giving an intense minerality and robust acidity to their wines!

🍇The winery was founded by Béla Fekete, the “Grand Old Man of Somló” who brought the first part of the farm in the early 70’s and grew it, step by step, to it’s current 3.5 hectares. As usual we'll be pairing these wines with cheese from Nibbles, Bath's premiere cheesemonger.

This tasting is at our shop in Bath and will start at 7pm on the 16th of June. The tasting lasts around 1.5 hours and is limited to 12 guests, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

🍷 Pablo is the winemaker at Vinedo de los Vientos; a Uruguayan, family run winery which has been owned by the Fallabrino family since 1947. 1998, they fully upgraded to an ultra-modern winery and have been making world class wine since.

🏄 Pablo Fallabrino takes a very laid-back approach to life and loves to surf. His relaxed nature carries over to his winemaking, leading by his instincts and avoiding over thinking. As a result, he had made many fantastic wines, all with their own distinct style, such as a red dessert wine which tastes of pure chocolate, a smooth youthful dry red, full of cherry and plum as well as a truly bold Tannat! As the name suggests, they’re wines made from grapes grown from old vines, but how does this affect the wine? How do they taste?

🍇Gnarled, intense, concentrated and complex are all ways to describe old vine wines. These are wines made from grapes grown on vines that, through careful winemaking and cultivation, have long outlived the normal lifespan of a vine. With a lower yield they produce top quality, lush wines that are intensely fruity with an added depth compared to younger vines.

🇦🇹 Opening their vineyard in 1987 with initially just 5.4 hectares, Glatzer is a true family business. Walter Glatzer works alongside his family to create wonderful organic wines with a focus on great taste and quality and as a result has become an award-winning winemaker.

🍇Following in the footsteps of ancient Romans, they grow their wines in the prized climate of Carnuntum, east of Vienna in a what is today a 50-hectare vineyard. The gentle rolling hills full of stony, dense loam and gravel soils are perfect for their red grapes while the sandy, alluvial plain stretching to the Danube is prefect for their white grapes, such as his delicious Gruner Veltliner.
