Bath and North East Somerset Council are asking for your opinions on proposals which include the introduction of emission-based parking charges to all Council-managed paid-for parking areas in Bath and North East Somerset, following their introduction in Bath car parks in September 2023.

Emission-based parking means that people with higher polluting vehicles would pay slightly more to encourage a shift to cleaner, more sustainable travel in the area.

A duty manager’s role is highly varied, you could be doing anything from unlocking the leisure centre and setting up, to ordering supplies and checking everything is perfect for your customers. Then, once the day is in full swing, duty managers ensure it’s all running as it should be – handling customer queries, managing your team and ensuring the successful operation of the gym and other facilities.

Fitness classes need to be booked before attending, there have been instances where members already booked on haven’t been able to take part in their class as people who haven’t booked have joined on without booking in advance.

GLL has partnered with national charity Carers UK, in support of its ‘Carers Active April’ campaign.

The month-long initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and highlight the benefits of moving more.

Throughout April, there will be lots of opportunities for carers to be active, with support available along the way. By signing up to Active April, carers will receive weekly online physical activity sessions, the opportunity to participate in a mass walking event, information on staying active and more.

In support of Carers Active April, GLL has created a membership offer for members of Carers UK and anyone who is in receipt of Carer’s Allowance. The promotion will run from 1st April - 14th May and provide anytime access to a Better leisure facility at the discounted rate of £30 per month. This includes using the gym, swimming, fitness classes and the health suite.

There are already a wide range of existing memberships available for people in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, including the Better Flex Adult Concessionary. For £5 a month you can enjoy one free activity a month (a choice of gym, swim or fitness class) and get a discount on additional bookings.

Ellis is in need of a donor match, for a life saving Bone Marrow Transplant after a diagnosis of Leukaemia. 

Old Redcliffians RFC (Scotland Lane, Brislington, Bristol, BS4 5LU) are hosting a walk-in swab test centre from 9am on 24/02/24.

We encourage everyone to test regardless of age. Mixed race males are of particular importance for this campaign given Ellis’ heritage.

A donor test is a simple cheek swab, no nasty needles. 

FAQ:

Q: I am older than 30, can I still test?
A: We are working with other charities such as aclt.org, we hope to have a testing date real soon but for now please join the register for a stem cell donation.

Q: Are Males only able to test?
A: Females are welcome to test and we encourage everyone to take a swab test.

Q: I can't make it, can I still help?

Can we also remind customers that if they do not attend a fitness class or cancel their spot within four hours of the class start time a £3 penalty fee will automatically applied to their account.These rules have been implemented to ensure customers on the waiting lists are given the fair chance to attend the class if there are spaces,there have been numerous instances over the past month where members haven’t attended or cancelled their spot and this has resulted in customers on the waiting list being unable to attend.

Odd Down Sports Ground are hosting their first Family Fun Day on the 2nd of July! Come along and see what will be on offer, from local businesses and stalls, raffles and food, to martial arts demonstrations, the fire brigade, local police and much, much more!
