Pearse Jordan Cumann
Sinn Féin constituency page for the Greater New Barnsley area. You can get in touch with any issues
Today marks the 31st anniversary of Óglach Pearse Jordan; who was murdered by the RUC on the 25th November, 1992.
Pearse was a young, courageous IRA volunteer who was executed whilst unarmed in cold blood that evening by the RUC.
Pearse's killing was a clear example of the British Governments shoot to kill policy here in Ireland.
Thoughts are with Pearses family, friends and comrades.
"I have no prouder boast than to say I am Irish and have been privileged to fight for the Irish people and for Ireland."

We were delighted to be joined by Dublin comrades on the campaign trail today in New Barnsley.
Same issues everywhere we go. Cost of living, housing and education all priorities as well as local issues that myself and Cllr Micheal Donnelly will respond to.
A massive thank you to everyone who came out today 🙌🙌

This morning myself and Cllr Michael Donnelly met with Department For Infrastructure in New Barnsley Parade.
We raised the serious problem of pot holes in the street and have asked for these to be repaired ASAP.
We will continue to raise this issue with DFI until it is resolved.

Assemble Top Of Whiterock tomorrow at 1pm for parade to Hugo Street.
It is a privilege to have been selected to represent the people of West Belfast as the new Sinn Féin MLA.
This is an exciting time for politics on the island of Ireland, with growing demand for change and a flourishing conversation on a new and united Ireland.
As a community activist, I am passionate about ensuring our community has a strong voice reflecting the needs of families and workers.
And it is the voice of communities that I will bring into the heart of the Assembly.
I will drive forward real and transformative change in West Belfast - working to deliver more homes, better jobs and world class leisure and health facilities to promote positive physical and mental health.
Looking forward to hitting the ground running!
Members of our Cumann were contacted by local residents in New Barnsley and Moyard around the overgrown hedges in the pathway of the Farm area.
These hedges were making it difficult for locals to pass by.
Nobody takes responsibility for these hedges so we had to take action into our own hands this morning.
Hopefully that does the job for a while!

Thoughts are with our Palestinian brothers and sisters who are being murdered on a day and daily basis by the Israeli state whilst the western world remains silent.

Solidarity with the Ballymurphy Massacre families as they await the findings of an inquest into the murder of their loved ones tomorrow.
Let’s hope that truth and justice prevails tomorrow.
Easter is a time where we reflect and remember the ultimate sacrifice that our patriot dead made in the cause of Irish freedom.
Honour and remember them by wearing an Easter lily 🇮🇪
*Guthanna ‘81 | Voices of ‘81* - Podcast starting this Sunday at 11am as part of the 40th Anniversary commemoration of the 1981 Hunger Strike. 🇮🇪
Today we remember Óglach Frank Stagg, who selflessly gave his life in the cause of Irish freedom on this day in 1976.
Frank was only 35 years old when he died after 62 days on hunger strike in Wakefield prison. We remember him with pride.

The disgraceful actions of the PSNI this afternoon on the Ormeau Road where family members of the 5 innocent victims murdered by the UDA 29 years ago met to remember their loved ones was totally wrong, as was the highly visible policing operation for a funeral taking place in Turf Lodge yesterday.
This has caused much anger across the city and has added hurt to those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.
Totally uncalled for and counter productive.
A chairde, please see below some useful information that will help with fuel relief for those struggling or getting it tight at the minute.
Unfortunately in 2021, families are still having to prioritise whether to heat or eat. That is not acceptable.

A chairde, we have been contacted by a number of residents in the New Barnsley area around missed recycling bin collections.
Our councillor, Micheal Donnelly has been chasing this up and council have informed us that they will again attempt to empty recycling bins tomorrow. The reason for not being emptied previously was access issues.
We total understand residents frustrations along with the added build up of recycling waste.
General waste bins due for collection on New Years Day will now be collected on Sunday the 3rd January.
Our dearest thoughts are with Teresa and the Jordan family on the sad passing of their beloved Hugh.
Our cumann is proudly named after Hugh and Teresa’s son, Óglach Pearse Jordan and we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family on behalf of our cumann and the wider republican family at this difficult time.
Go ndéanaí Dia trócaire ar a anam
Is le brón an domhain orainn gur chualamar an drochscéal go bhfuair ár gcara dilis Hugh Jordan bás um tráthnóna.

It is with deep sadness that we heard of the death of our dear friend Hugh Jordan who died this evening
We offer our condolences to Hugh's wife Teresa and to his grieving family.
May he rest in peace.
Tonight our cumann held its AGM to elected a new officer board for the year ahead.
Massive thanks to our officer board that recently stepped down and to our outgoing cumann chair, Órla Nic Biorna.
We’d also like to thank Caoimhin Mac Giolla Mhin for chairing tonight’s meeting.
Our cumann has had to adapt differently throughout the year as a result of Covid but we’ve still tried our best to help local residents on a number of issues and will continue to do so including:
🔶Road Resurfacing
🔶New Playpark
🔶Covid Community Response
🔶 cleansing and Pest issues
Looking forward to the year ahead ✊🏼🇮🇪
Our thoughts are with the Finucane family this evening who yet again; have seen the British government put more blockages in place to stop the truth coming out into the murder of their loved one, Pat.
Collusion is not an illusion. Solidarity with the Finucane family
🚨 Missed bin collections 🚨
We’ve been contacted by a number of residents in relation to a number of general waste bins being missed for collection in Moyard Crescent this afternoon.
Councillor Micheal Donnelly has since been in touch with waste management in Belfast City Council and they have told him that bins will be collected tomorrow.
Anyone whose bins were missed, please leave them out for collection tomorrow. 🗑
This evening, Belfast City Council has agreed to a Sinn Féin proposal to fund a £300k scheme to purchase food and essential utilities to assist vulnerable families and workers over the Christmas period.
This scheme will see thousands of parcels, consisting of food and essentials delivered to families across Belfast.
Our local councillor, Micheal Donnelly welcomed tonight’s decision and added “Food poverty is just one of many forms of poverty that exists within our society and we as a party have consistently called for an anti poverty strategy to be implemented. We will continue to do that.
No one should have to go without food. Hopefully this funding will help some who need that extra bit of support at this present time”.
We as a cumann will be there to assist and help members of our community like we’ve previously done over the coming days, weeks and months.
A welcomed development
🏠🚨 WEST BELFAST HOUSING DEVELOPMENT GETS PLANNING APPROVAL 🚨🏠
Planning has been approved for one of the largest housing developments in Belfast in the last 20 years. The development will be located at the Glenmona site which is conjoined to the Monagh By-Pass.
The project will see the construction of 656 homes, 550 of which are social and 106 affordable.
There are many families and workers in West Belfast that have spent years on the housing waiting list, an unacceptable reality and one that Sinn Féin have been working actively to address.
Sinn Féin has been working with Braidwater developers over the course of the last year on this development to ensure that the needs of our community in West Belfast are met and we will continue to do so in the time ahead.
The development will also create hundreds of construction jobs.
With two care homes, a retail centre, hotel, office premises and a play park - many other jobs will be created in the long term.
Housing is a fundamental human right that must be enjoyed by all.
Sinn Féin will continue to work with local residents to address any concerns that they may have.
Across the island, Sinn Féin will continue to work to ensure that families and workers have access to affordable, sustainable and high-quality homes.
A chairde, please see the useful information below for those isolating as a result of Covid or having to isolate for being deemed a close contact.
Financial support is there thanks to our party colleagues Deirdre Hargey and Carál Ní Chuilín as Communities Ministers within DFC.
Any issues, feel free to message our page!
Extra financial support | nidirect The Finance Support Service supports people who live in Northern Ireland and are in need of short term financial assistance.
These next few weeks are going to be challenging and difficult for us all.
When our community does pull together though, nobody doesn’t it better.
This virus is real, it is hospitalising people and sadly; some are dying. Let’s work together as best as we can.
Heroes and legends 🇮🇪
Pat Sheehan on Twitter “On this day 39 yrs ago, after 55 days without food, I informed the prison authorities that the hunger strike was over. In one of the most epic & groundbreaking periods of our history 10 men sacrificed their lives for Irish freedom. Proud to have been able to call them comrades.”
On this day in 1983, 38 IRA prisoners broke out of Long Kesh in what was known as the “most escape proof prison in Europe."
25th of September, in the year ‘83, from the cages of Long Kesh 38 men ran free ✊🏼🇮🇪
