We’re loving the new colourful gable ends of the Lisburn road , aren’t you? To celebrate the new murals there’s a special event tomorrow (Saturday) with an invitation to follow the trail of the new murals and watch some very talented artists complete new art works on the day ! We have a long history of serving the community of South Belfast and beyond. This is one of the earliest images we have of this block of shops showing the long-standing commitment to retail there has been on this little stretch of the Lisburn road. That’s many, many years of across the counter chats, ‘five slices of cooked ham’, ‘a bag of sugar’ and ‘how are you keeping?’. 👑We are just catching our breath after an historic day for our wee shop.

👑Arcadia has been trading from the same spot on the Lisburn rd for 91 years and this is a day that will long live in the memory.

👑We’ve had to keep quiet about this for a few weeks as plans were put in place but today the secret was out and HRH The Queen arrived in a flurry of camera flashes!

👑With the emphasis of the visit on independent retail we were able to chat with her about the importance of the local high street , sourcing the best local, national and international produce and the challenges of running a family business.

👑Three generations of our family were in attendance and our daughters presented a specially created posy, which the Belfast Lord Lieutenant deemed exquisite, made for us by the talented Allison Hood . The posy contained locally grown and beautifully scented Narcissi, Muscari, Rosemary, Skimmia, White Heather and Pear ,’All flowers that I have chosen were to reflect Her Majesty’s love for gardening and seasonal locally grown flowers’ Allison Hood (we are told on good authority that the posy went home on the plane with her!)

👑She also returned with some of NI’s finest Fayre including Cobden and Brown Chocolate , Corndale charcuterie, Forest Feast chocolate nuts , Thompsons Tea, Eringrove chutney and Burren Balsamic vinegar.
