Here’s one for mums 👌 https://www.familydaystriedandtested.com/advent-calender-for-mums/
Today, we hear the news that our friend Alan Whitbread, sadly died. This isn’t unexpected news but nevertheless it is certainly unwanted news. Alan was part of the fabric of Shakespeare Morris. In the relatively short time that I have been a member of Shakespeare, Alan has been Dancer, Musician, Singer and Captain of the Mummers. He put his heart and soul into everything to do with Morris and the wider folk world, and the wider Morris world, oh and CAMRA and if I remember correctly, he was the official Ale Taster of the Alcester Court Leet.
Our thoughts at this time are with Alan’s son Simon, and Simon’s family, and also with Alan’s partner Julie; it cannot be overstated how much Julie made Alan’s transition from this world to the next a comfortable one.
My epitaph to Alan has already been written:
John Donne’s “For whom the bell tolls”
"No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee."
The Morris world; the Folk world; your friends and family, Alan; We are all the less for your passing.
So the next time the bells of Shakespeare Morris ring, they will be ringing in happy memory of our friend, Alan Whitbread
