first got curious about the world of Yoga in the 1980s, with his attention being drawn by Yoga and Buddist Traditions. He's since started the well respected Varasati Yoga school and has shared his learnings with many many people since the year 2000, when the school was founded.

In this workshop you will explore the history and ultimate purpose of the breath in yoga. you'll learn what the energy-body is and how it relates to the breath through practice of ta***ic and haṭha yoga breath techniques.
See how the breath is used to both reveal and release habit patterns in the nerves during posture practice and practice an extended pranayama practice.
For those of you who enjoy classes here at LW, you'll be sure to enjoy Jim's approach.

We’re not gonna to lie, starting your Ashtanga journey can be one of the most challenging and life-changing experiences, but maybe not for the reasons you may think.
Ashtanga is a system of yoga that was brought to the modern world by yogi Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. There are several series (set sequences) included within an Ashtanga practice, starting with the primary series and increasing in difficulty as you progress through the series. It is physically challenging, but Ashtanga is offered at Luna Wave as a guided practice with trusted and highly experienced teachers who will help you progress safely and wisely. Through a set sequence or series, which is always in the same order, the physical aspect of the practice, often the impression of yoga to the non-practitioner, becomes less conscious to give rise to a myriad of observations about the self. Ashtanga teaches you to bear witness to what shows up in your practice mentally, physically and emotionally and cultivates acceptance. Ashtanga is not about mastering poses, but more about what you learn about yourself.
Ashtanga practice begins with an opening chant in Sanskrit. This is instructed in call and repeat.
Then 5 x Surya Namaskar A (Sun salutations) and 5 x Surya Namaskar B.
Then you will commence the primary series, and depending on the pace of the class, the 75 mins will take you roughly to before or after Navasana (see slide 8).
The class will end in Savasana and the closing chant.
Do come and try. We recommend some yoga experience but all are welcome. Talk to the teacher beforehand if you have any questions or concerns.

💥✨We’re midway through 2024!!! ✨💥
Whaaaat?!!..you say. Yup…we can hardly believe it as well. Flowing with the fact that the only constant is CHANGE.
So with this shift into the second half of the year Luna Wave is delighted to announce a few sparkly new additions and tweaks to our schedule.
Following her hugely popular Sunday 9.30am class, the gorgeous Michelle Varchione will be adding another Vinyasa Flow class on Tuesdays at 6.30pm. This will also be a double waver spicy class for all those who love a get sweat up followed by a deep and juicy cool down in Savasana. This new Vinyasa Flow at 6.30pm on Tuesdays will kick off on Tuesday 16th July.
Gary Carter’s deliciously gentle and knowledge-rich Scaravelli Inspired Yoga will be pausing for the summer and returning in Sept to a different time slot at 11am on Tuesdays. He’ll be teaching tomorrow at 6.30pm and Tuesday 9th July at 6.30pm will be the last class until he returns in September, so book in now to get a last piece of the Carter pie before the autumn.
Having started last week, but amongst these sunny changes, Flo Derounian has brought her beautiful insightful teaching to a regular Hatha Flow at 5.15pm taking over from Lizzie.
And…drum roll… Cherry🍒 fans will be treated to a double dose of Cherry’s busy Vinyasa Flow on Saturdays with an extra Vinyasa class while her Yin class will move to Thursdays following her 9.30am Vinyasa Flow (another double dose of Cherry).
Cherry’s two Vinyasa Flow classes - 10.45am and 12.15pm start from this Saturday 6th July
And Yin fans will be delighted to know that Cherry’s Yin class will move to Thursdays at 11am (starting from 11 July) following her regular 9.30am Vinyasa Flow.

We’re sad to inform you that Khadine Morcom has been involved in a cycling accident and fractured her arm, so she is unable to host the Power of Om workshop tomorrow. We wish her all the best for a speedy recovery. She’s doing well after a long afternoon in A&E, but as it only happened yesterday, it’s a little too soon for her to be able to teach.
Her partner, Jim Tarran, whom many of you may know, will be gallantly stepping into her shoes and hosting the workshop. Jim is an highly knowledgeable teacher with over 30 years of experience behind him and has a huge following of students and yoga teachers alike. He is the founder of the Vajrasati School of Yoga here in Brighton and an all round delightful human being!
We really can’t speak more highly of Jim as a perfect alternative, despite the circumstances, and there are a few remaining spaces available for the workshop if you’d like to book in.
In the meantime, let’s all send Khadine a collective Luna Wave hug and shower her with get well soon kisses ❤️🩹

If you’ve never been to a Kirtan and always wanted to, here’s some useful info (swipe above).
Kirtana (कीर्तन), is a Sanskrit word that means the “narrating, reciting, telling, describing” of an idea or story, specifically in Indian religions.
A kirtan, which comes from the Vedic anukirtana tradition, is a kind of call-and-response song or chant set to music. Many kirtans are designed to get the audience involved, either by repeating the chant or responding to the singer.
You’ll be amongst friends and like-minded lush puppies in the super loving hands of the amazing Kelly Jarvis AND in our lovely studio setting by the sea with the sounds of the waves and late evening sunshine as a backdrop (with a bit of luck 🍀 🤩)
